Would You Want Santonio Holmes as a FA?

1,000 years old and relied on speed.

I also swear the Steelers had a factory for a while.

Holmes was followed by Mike Wallace. Both speedy receivers with less than stelar attitudes.

Joey Porter followed by James Harrison. Both had some weird dog attack Incidents and both got in trouble for being a loudmouth when visiting the whitehouse)

Either ways, I am sure I just named at least thee more players than 90% of Steelers "fans" can name.

I'd absolutely be fine with him coming.  He's played at a poor level in recent years, along with battling injuries, so we could likely sign him for a low level offer around the league minimum. If he doesn't impress, he's an easy cut.  He has shown skills in the past however, so it's certainly a case where it's a no-lose situation to let him come in here and compete.

Prior to signing last year, Ted Ginn and Mike Mitchell were former high level picks who had failed in their earlier roles and were generally considered to be busts. Both proved to be integral pieces of our team last year.

Just because you have preconceived notions of a guys skill or lack thereof, it's amazing what a change of scenery will do for a guy.  The last time Santonio Holmes had a competent QB throwing him the ball, he was pretty good.

I really don't care who we pick up because it's not like G-man will put them into a position where they can't be cut before the season starts.  At this point I am thinking that we need competition. Holmes has gone from a play-maker to a scrub (because of injury, and possibly attitude) in the prime of his career.  I don't see why it's any more or less of a horrible idea than anyone else at this point. If G-man kicks the tires on Holmes and picks Holmes' mind, then decides to sign him, I won't smile or frown. Holmes could continue to be the bust that he has been---but at a much cheaper rate---or he could rejuvenate his championship years.  As long as he is signed to a one-year prove-it type of deal, the worse thing that could happen is he turns out to be Hixon 2.0 (as can Sidney RIce, Miles Austin, and even Kenny Britt).  If his attitude is not right, he won't even make it to September, and, if he does, he could still be gone by October.
