Kaepernick wants $18MM per year

See Romo, Stafford, Ryan and Flacco and argue where the starting franchise QB rate is... Not if you think player X is worth it.. But what idiots got the big contracts before them with a projected increased salary cap in future years.

In other words.. Cam will make the cap room really uncomfortable when he gets his contract in 2015.... And b4 "he needs to do this" and "he overthrows too much" he will have earned it.

Combining J Stew and Deangelo's money to lock up Cam is something most of us would welcome every day of the week.

My question is how much does 18 mil hurt their cap space? They also have other marquee guys they need to keep.

They have a little over $10 mill in cap space, $2 mill of which is rollover.

The QB position has gotten crazy in terms of contracts.  Three or four years down the road, all 32 starting QBs will probably be making at least 18 million dollars a year.  With that said, Andy Dalton is more worthy of 18 million than Kaepy.

Can't blame Kaep because his team know what a QB need to be successful and we don't. We keep complaining about Kaep's weapons yet every team have the same salary cap. Rivera is a defensive minded coach so he put all his egg in one basket thus an idiot coach. The 9ers believe in balance thus they have a team that can compete in all facet thus they have smart coaches. As easy as that. Smart people will always prosper. The not so smart ones, well, will have no LT, no WR, no secondary, a great D, and keep winging it. Pretty funny.

None of them were worth that money.

Kaepernick isn't either.

These salaries are fueled largely by TV contracts and those costs are passed on to us in our cable bills.

I don't fault the players for getting what they can while they can.

However, it doesn't take a crystal ball to see these kinds of increases are unsustainable in the long run.

Got to give mcdougal credit for top toeing like a boss ;-)

Qb contacts are insane and fueled by a fear of breaking your system and a fear of ending up like the Jags...

Is Kaep worth it? The better question is can a rookie come in and play the same role? Is the a answer is no, you gotta pay.

A side issue for the mobile QBs is going to be their mental development. Can they play without their legs? Cam is getting there. He's not totally there yet. Would SF fans be comfortable is Kaep couldn't run and only throw the ball? As an outside observer, that is a concern fit Kaep.
