Jon Beason: Would we have been better off?

So basically this thread is implying that we should've kept Beason, who was hurt and has like 2 years left in him maybe, and a decent LT (the dude is no Bell, but he isn't the greatest O lineman ever or anything) and not taken Keek. Luke is one of the top 2 MLB's in the league and reads a defense as good as any MLB I've ever seen.

 

Seriously watch the tackle at 2:52 and say that you'd rather have Beason/Reif in any situation.

How is a starting LT that protects and immobile QB that puts up over 4500 yards annually averaged? He was a 1st rounder too.

 

So, you're expecting to hit the jack pot on a starting LT and a franchise WR in one draft? If you're picking top 5 that's a different story but when you're picking 28 that poo is slim. MLBs aren't as important. A good DL and scheme can mask their weaknesses easily. The best defenses in the league don't necessarily have top notch name brand defensive player of the year type MLBs. One of them won the SB this year. We could do wonder with Beason and with a starting LT in our pocket.

All personal achievements for Keuchly and his family. I'm happy for him but doesn't exactly mean SBs for the panthers organization. We're in a perpetual rebuilding mode and contracts(including Keuchly's) is coming up. We could be going into this off season in search of only a franchise WR and some secondary help. Now we need a franchise LT, WR, and secondary. That's it very hard to get in one off season with no money and drafting bottom of the draft.

This what if game looks like fun. What if we drafted AJ Green instead of cam. We ride with Anderson for a year then take Wilson the next year with or 2nd. Instead of Joe Adams we grab Joe Looney in the 4th. we now have a franchise qb and wr while still coming away with a starting guard.

Beason's 3 Pro Bowls were before his microfracture and Achilles surgeries. Jon Beason of 2013 is nowhere close to Jon Beason of 2008-2010. Did you forget that he lost his starting LB job to Chase Blackburn when he was here last year? Did you also forget that Beason is not on a rookie deal and would have cost roughly 8 million next year on an already cap strapped team?

What sort of crazy logic is that? What about the best kicker in the NFL. How do you equate that to the value of, say, Calvin Johnson. Just because it sounds nice doesn't mean it makes sense. Teams can do without DPOY MLB. The 2 SB teams did well without one. They're not as valuable as you think. Plus, Keuchly was getting beat like a drum throughout the year by good TEs.

It is only crazy logic if you don't understand it.  I was not talking about value--I was talking about his qualities as a football player.  Of Course, Cam is more important to the team than Luke and Cam is becoming an elite NFL qb if he is not already, but is he a better football player than Luke?  I asked for an example. 

 

By the way, isince you decided to discuss football logic-- didn't you start this thread?
