I noticed that Saints Report placed a bag of Ramen noodles on the waiver wire. I motion we offer them Eve & a bag of packing peanuts.

i get what the OP is trying to say. But you can't just say we traded one starting caliber MLB for another instead of picking u an OT with the Luke pick.

Kuechly isn't just some starting caliber MLB. He was the best defensive player in the league last year, he's only in his 2nd year, his ceiling is outrageous like Cam's, and we got the face of the franchise on the defensive side of the ball. He is one of those once in a generation type talents, just like Cam.

Beason was a GREAT player, one of the best in the league during his prime, but that time is over.

Put your loyalty and homerism aside for one minute and just think about the condition of this team right now. We're entering the 2014 season all expectations but not starting LT, no #1 WR or any respectable receiver for that matter, a secondary in disarray, and we're cap strap. Now image if we had Beason and didn't have to worry about our LT situation. Like it or not this defense is not entirely centered on Keuchly. We have one of the best DL in the League and we barely need to blitz.

The first half of this paragraph just read out as "fug Hurney" over and over again in my mind.....

Suppose we had drafted an OT in 2012 instead of Luke Keuchly, would we have been better as a team right now? No, this is not a Keek bashing by any stretch. The OT that was drafted that year after our pick was Riley Reif by the Lions. Had we drafted him he would probably be playing RT for us, thus our running and passing game would have been better throughout that span.  Instead of Keuchly we would have Beason playing his spot. Having Keek kind of forced us to get rid of Beason thus losing a starting caliber player in Beason. Not saying that Beason would have done the same or a better job but it wouldn't be that far off, especially behind our DL. The tiny edge we get from Keuchly we would probably have gotten an even bigger return from the offense with better protection.

Now with Gross retiring all we'd need to do is move him to the LT spot. So this off season we would only be worrying about WRs and secondary and maybe an OT in the later rounds. Right now we have a complete mess.

Here is a highlight of Beason's 2013 season. The guy is a beast.

The only OT taken in the first round (available for us at 8) was Riley Reiff at 23. Do you think we should have drafted Riley Reiff over Luke? You need to look at the actual players in the draft when you ask questions like this.

That's exactly who mentioned in the OP. He's the starting LT for the lions. Yes, we would have been better off with him and keeping Beason. This is not a player-player comparison. Our situation would be better. Most GMs would have gone that route having just drafted a franchise QB the year prior.
