i get what the OP is trying to say. But you can't just say we traded one starting caliber MLB for another instead of picking u an OT with the Luke pick.

Kuechly isn't just some starting caliber MLB. He was the best defensive player in the league last year, he's only in his 2nd year, his ceiling is outrageous like Cam's, and we got the face of the franchise on the defensive side of the ball. He is one of those once in a generation type talents, just like Cam.

Beason was a GREAT player, one of the best in the league during his prime, but that time is over.

And Kuechly has never had a torn Achilles tendon. I love JB but he will never be a better player than LK who is younger and healthier. Btw I am by no way saying JB is hot garbage. He is one of the best if healthy. But he is not the reigning DPOY. I guess it's the off season and we need subjects to discuss.

That was the premise of the post. Had we drafted Lions' current LT Riley Reif with the 9th pick instead of Keuchly, we would at this moment have a starting LT and Beason to man the MLB position. Meaning a better running game and passing attack, and the defense would not be that far off with Beason as the MLB. Had we hired an offensive minded coach instead of Rivera this likely would have been the scenario. Offensive coaches tend to draft OT after they find their franchise QB(if they don't already have one).  Cam was drafted in 2011 and Riley Reif was drafted in 2012 with the 23rd pick by Detroit. That could have been the pick instead of Keuchly. At this moment we would be set at LT. Our only concern this off season would be WRs and secondary.

Riley Reiff

This thread be closed. The fact that we are having this conversation about a DPOY winner is silly at best.

Moronic at worst 30 other teams ( I discounted San Fran, They have Willis and Bowman) would kill to have Luke as their mike.

Lets not get stupid now

It's a dumb premise, primarily because Beason is nowhere near as close to Kuechly as you think.  Heck, he was benched for being a liability even before he was traded.

After this offseason's free agency and draft, we could be set at left tackle and have a superior middle linebacker, as well as addressing other position concerns.

Drafting Luke was the right choice, and no amount of spin you can try to put on it will change that fact.
