Still loving Gettleman?

And if you think that someone will not take into account how every player, much less 89, is treated here when they are thinking of signing with the Panthers, then you are simply naive.

And Hurney was the exact opposite.  What were the benefits?  Did big name free agents sign here for a discount?  Did Charles Johnson, Deangelo, Stewart take less than market value?  Did anyone besides Plaxico Buress and Michael Vick coming out of prison terms even mention our name as a preferable free agent destination?

Gettleman hasn't done anything that has been unprofessional.   If anything he has been openly honest about everything.  He said last year that Cam could be a franchise QB needed to show he could win games.  Cam did and now he says Cam is the franchise QB.  He said we were in salary cap hell and was going to make changes and decisions based off of that and he has.  What more could you ask for?  Straight forward honesty will be more appreciated in the long run.

Says we are going to build through the draft and pick up quality (ie cheap) FA's in the process.  That what he is going to do.  It's our fault if we keep expecting differently.

If I had spent 12-13 years in the NFL, as a veteran, I think I would have matured enough over the years to not have to be treated with kid gloves at 33 yrs old.  Smittys response should have been, "it's a business, I am sure we will have some conversations in the next week or so".

At what point in his life will his ego be in check?

it's part of the package that makes him who he is. I don't care in the least if he has an ego.his ego is what drives him on the field also and it is what says you are not going to beat me. If you put out the ego you put out the fire.I think in this situation the whole thing has calmed down and is no longer an issue to the principles of the matter.

GM's need to be able not to just identify talent in the guys but find the one's who really committed and driven to win.  Those make the successful one's and I think Dave has the eye for that type.

that point alone should silence the get rid of Steve Smith crowd.

I really love the way Gettleman does business.

BUSINESS.

Let the owner take care of the "family" part... the GM can run the business.

If the damn Indianapolis Colt's fans can get over losing Peyton Manning... if Green Bay Packer's fans can get over losing Brett Favre... then suck it up nancies, Carolina Panther's fans can get the hell over the loss of Jordan Gross and (potentially) Steve Smith.

Anyone that thinks Gettleman is trying to damage the team and, therefore, damage his OWN reputation is just being silly.

I live in Indianapolis....The Indy fans are NOT over losing Manning - not by any stretch of the imagination. Manning is still a superhero around here. He did so much for the community, he's practically worshipped in this city. By the way, when your kid get sick in Indy, you take him to the Payton Manning Children's Hospital. Yes..... He helped fund a freaking children's hospital.....you don't get over stuff like that very easily - if ever.

I love what Gettleman is doing for us and I fully support him getting this franchise in order.

Getting personal with the players is why Carolina always finished 7-9 or 8-8.  When you trim the fat and keep the players hungry, that's when you have sustained success.

Yeah I know if I went on the radio like Steve did and talked crap about my boss I would have gotten fired.  Don't understand while a spoiled millionaire should be any different.

So apparently simply asking that a GM personally speak to a player about an important matter like two adults, and not through the media, equates to literally wanting the GM to be just like Marty Hurney. You learn something new everyday.

It's just the cost of doing business, some people here just don't understand that
