Still loving Gettleman?

I have to disagree with you that what Gettleman said was "dismissive".

I thought it was (1) truthful and (2) pretty innocuous.

What turned it into an issue was the media making something out of nothing with the active help of one Mr. Steve Smith.

I don't deny that the media is blowing it up, but to not at least give him a slight heads up that you may be considering ending his 13 year employment and then also not return his agent's calls, seems shady.

So in his first year he cuts Gamble, and forces Gross into a restructure.  Gamble retires.

In his second, Gross retires, G-Man treats Smitty like a has-been, and doesn't even bother with Munnerlyn.

Hurney was loyal to his guys to a fault.  Think Gettleman is doing it right, or is he the anti-Hurney?

I don't think he is treating Smitty like a has been. He is learning and has made mistakes but nothing to hate him for yet. On the other hand nothing to make one  trust him unconditionally.

So he cut a 30-something year old corner who had obviously lost the will to play (as evidenced by sitting out the whole year with a torn labrum and retiring the moment he was cut) restructured a left tackle in his 30s while the team was in cap hell from hurney, made an "evaluating" comment about a 35 year old receiver whose signature season was 10 seasons ago, and is holding firm on a 5'8 cornerback who seems to only be useful as a nickel corner and thinks he is worth way more than he actually is. Whats the issue here with any of these things?

so do you truly believe that smith has no reason to be upset about the situation?

Hurney's insane loyalty to the players is what got us into this mess. It's the reason we have 2 RBs with $40 mil contracts.

Your right, but you have to remember double trouble was the core of our offense back then. Unfortunately Hurney over evaluated their TRUE WORTH.

If I had spent 12-13 years in the NFL, as a veteran, I think I would have matured enough over the years to not have to be treated with kid gloves at 33 yrs old.  Smittys response should have been, "it's a business, I am sure we will have some conversations in the next week or so".

At what point in his life will his ego be in check?

What dumb questions and statements. It is obvious you know very little about the operations of an NFL team.

DG is a far superior GM than Hurney could ever dream of being... yes Hurney did draft some good talent, but he felt the need to break the bank in order to keep "his" guys.... that's why we're in the financial mess we are in now. DG got us under the cap in year one, drafted some awesome talent, restructured deals and signed guys like Mike Mitchell...

He knows what he's doing, he knows football is a business and the bottom line is are you winning. DG will do whaatever is necessary for this team to continue winning.
