On the "Well the 49ers cut Jerry Rice so obviously that means we can cut Steve Smith" argument, they actually already had another talented receiver on their roster, his name was Terrell Owens, who proceeded to put up 3900 total yards through the next 3 seasons on his way to 3 straight pro bowls. Right now we've got uhhhhhh, I'm drawing a blank here. Oh yeah, that's right, Steve Smith is the only WR we have under contract.

The bigger question might be how many losses next year would have Huddlers screaming for him to be fired.

Should I set the over/under at one, or higher (say...two).

I think it's way too early for that. I don't agree with some of his decisions, but we went 12-4. I think how he handles the WR position and Hardy deal is critical. If Bell is our starting LT next season tho, I'll riot.

It's not so much about what will happen as it is about how The Huddle tends to operate.

Overreaction is the norm here.

Fans overreact because we don't know the master plan. So every move that is made is a wtf for us. Part of being a fan

I pull for the team, not the players. With luck, the team will still be here in 20 years, none of the current players will. I was there in the beginning, the VERY beginning and I wish this franchise had been run from day 1 like a business rather than the charity it has been for 15 plus years.

A multimillionaire has already been given what he is owed. The NFL is based upon current physical prowess and projected performance, not past accolades and nostalgic memories.

That is what tribute videos are for.

I love Smitty but if Jerry Rice can be shown the door if he didn't want to cooperate, so can Mighty Mouse. The 2014/15 SB Champ will not look back and say, "Thank goodness we listened to our heart rather than doing what is best for the team".

I would be a fan if Steve Smith would have been drafted and played his entire career with the Falcons. Steve Smith does not define the Panthers and Steve Smith does not make me a fan. He is a part of our lore and I will cherish every game but time marches on.

saying you root for the team and not the players is like saying you like rectangles, but not the sides lol.

and business was already made when Smith signed his contract it was a business decision by both the panthers and smith, now the organization wants to choose not to honor that then they will be hit with the appropriate sanctions, my point being is that PLAYERS LIKE SMITH ARE INVALUABLE to a franchise, they are the ones you remember in 20 years....not drew carter, hank baskett, etc.

Business isn't all about financial numbers, neither is nfl all about stats. The intangibles play a huge part. what does sending Steve out on a bad note show our current players?

you mean most can't handle realizing the breakup is coming... nevertheless he's likely going to retire next year anyway. ask yourself, has he done enough this year to bring the difference to our WR success as he did 5 years ago? dude, it's about that time. Smitty is my boy, but he's a strong #3 now or and solid #2 when healthy (haha)... we need a #1 and Ginn should be the minimum of our WRs. Don't get me wrong, SS can certainly play longer, but best believe it will not be like what made us like him years ago in a consistent role. The end is coming and he will "decide" to leave rather than be forced out. No way JR lets that happen while he's alive. peace

I say two good years left . he needs to move to the slot. That doesn't mean he is done. If he moves to slot his numbers will pick up again. He may not have the deep speed , no down by much, but he is still quick and can break away after the catch. He will be a killer on short routes. Let's see if the Panther brain trust can see the obvious.
