Anyone jumped industries before....

I'm currently working in Procurement/Supply Chain for a computer hardware firm. Thought about dabbling into the oil industry in Houston (though if Tesla gets their Spaceport or battery factory here in the Houston area I'm in).

 

Was it difficult to adjust? Did you do any prep work/studying of the new industry?

I'm going to start reading Primer for Oilwell drilling.

Supply Chain should be a fairly easy jump, but you never know.

It's really hard to get into the oil rigging field I've heard. A lot of people want these jobs naturally. The pay is supposed to be great tho. Good luck.

Been in the financial sector for 15 yrs. Love to coach sports and invent stuff or solve complex problems. But I love to talk anout about a wide range of stuff and people always tell me to do stand up. Public speaking comes easy to me but what im leaning towards is radio. Yeah. I said radio.

Anybody have any experience with accrue partners in charlotte? Looks like they're a hiring agency and wanted to see if anyone had any experience with them. Got a call recently and they're wanting to set up an interview

 

I've been there a few times but I found better offers looking for my own. Also I'm graduating in May, the places that hire recruiters usually aren't looking for interns or noobs.

Update on my situation. Landed a temp position through accrue partners and started work today. Landed an interview for a full time job Thursday of last week. Thought the interview went really well but haven't heard anything yet. How long is normal to hear something by? They didn't really give me a time frame so I'm not sure how long I should wait before assuming I didn't get it.

When I got the job I had I didn't hear back for about a week. Just depends on how many people they are interviewing. Good luck.

Remember, the quicker they hire you the faster they can fire you. Be patient.

Was the full tine interview arranged by Accrue Partners or another reqruiter? If so, reach out to them to see if they have received feedback. That us part of their job...make the recruiter work fir you.

The full time interview was not through a recruiter.

I'll give my story a shot and see if anyone has any advice to offer:

 

I graduated in August with a B.S. in Biology and Psychology, it has always been my dream to go to medical school. I started out just a bio major but found I really, really liked Psychology so I added it. Also am really interested in computer science but only took one course in it (intro to programming: Javascript) and waited till the last semester of my undergrad career so I couldn't pursue that any farther. 

 

I took the MCAT in August and did well on the verbal and bio sections but kind of bombed the physical science section. 

 

This year I have worked as a CNA with a young man who has muscular dystrophy and at an eldercare home for people with dementia, specifically a lot of alzheimers. 

 

I applied to medical schools and DO schools this year and got rejected by every single one. ECU offered for me to come talk about my application and ways in which to improve it. Mainly improve: my physical science section and boost my science GPA. I recently got accepted to a post-bac program at Meredith college specifically for science GPA. 

 

So i'm scheduled to take the MCAT again in May and have been studying pretty much on and off all year for it, including a Kaplan course. BUTTTTT I'm worried. 

 

If I don't do better on the physical science section I'm not going to get into any medical school and boosting my science GPA is pretty pointless if I'm not going to reapply. Furthermore, I wouldn't be able to apply until next cycle (May 2015) because I would need all of next year to get my science GPA up. Thus the Meredith program while only a one year commitment ensures I would be out of school for two more years.

 

Furthermore, I spoke with a bunch of old psychology professors recently about graduate school in psych (if I do get my MD i either want to be a pediatrician or a psychiatrist thus a clinical psychologist/professor would also be a great fit for me). I kind of realized that I really, really like psych and have started to question my desire for medical school.

 

Those professors recommended I get a job in a psych lab and then apply to PhD programs. So I've applied to a bunch of those and even a promising internship this summer at Duke I should hear back from tomorrow.

 

So essentially I'm at a crossroads and have no idea what to do, and am starting to feel like anxiety from the pressure.

 

furthemore, if neither of those work out I recently found an online post-bac computer science certificate from state that might be worth looking into. 

 

tl;dr stuck between deciding med school and psych PhD----neither is a guarantee

I'm trying decide between taking some computer programming classes or getting an MBA in Finance or Accounting ...next year. Too much going on this year :)
