Quick Question....

Two DEs account for 20% of our cap, you couldn't make this up, especially after getting burnt already with two RBs.

I have no problem with our DEs taking up 20% of our cap considering how productive they are and just how valuable high end pass rushers are in the modern NFL.  The issue is the running backs... they are simply not a very valuable position, we have a handful of them who are being paid very well and with the exception of our fullback they aren't productive (granted a lot of that is due to the line, Dlo can still make plays when he gets nice holes).

Now running backs can be valuable, especially if you have a poor option at QB and one of those truly special backs (Vikings and AP makes sense).  Thing is our running backs are even LESS valuable because our quarterback happens to be incredibly dangerous as a runner.

I'm not without hope though, if Stew can truly recover and we can get some nice pieces on the Oline we might actually have a pretty nasty running game which will vastly improve the scheme Shula is running.

Restructure CJ's contract....damn he's killing the cap.  It would really be nice if the Raiders traded for Greg Hardy and Carolina got a first and a third...replace Gross at the top of the draft and grab another pass-rusher in FA with the money left over...

    • Karlaftis and Danna have been pretty inconsistent so teams have been doubling Jones and able to contain their pass rush.   But the good thing is that yesterday, we schemed well against Steve Spags Defense, Canales married the surrounding personnel with his QB through play designs within his comfort zone and was able to get downfield at will.  He was able to execute higher difficulty throws and look a lot more comfortable.  It tells me that Canales has a good system in mind, and had an edge gameplanning wise against Spagnuolo - which is nice to see.  It's a bit to see-saw at times with either going way too pass heavy or way too run heavy, but I think he's finding out what works.  It takes time to have it come together, and sure, I could see regression happen against a better front-7, but this was good for the entire system gelling.
    • This was evident first two weeks of season. I don’t see any issues with physical tools since he came back. I think he is a player that must play with confidence to overcome those size limitations and he’s doing that.
    • Still 3-10 on passes over 15 yards.  At least he's not scared to merely attempt them anymore.  Where I see improvement is the 10-15 yard range.  He was 6-6.  Bryce of old was scatter shot on anything beyond 10 yards and the further out, the worse the accuracy.
