Franchise tag it is

There were 3 scenarios.

1. Let him walk

2. Sign to long term deal to help out the cap for this season

3. Tag him and trade him

Looks like number 3 is going to happen. The franchise tag takes up too much of our cap on a player for just 1 season when we have so many other holes to fill.

You are forgetting scenario #4.....

Tag him, which buys us more time to work out a deal with him.

Although I do agree with you about the cap hit being too much....and I don't think he will play the season under the tag.

I would rather get a starting LT and a good WR with that same $13M.

It's a tough situation all around, the offense is going to be a work in progress regardless. We have Hurney to thank for sitting around while Jordan Gross, and Steve Smith only got older, and older, and never bothered to think about the future. Gettleman is going to have to find the answers for the offense in the draft, something we have failed at for years, and one of the main reasons why it took 5 years to return to the playoffs.

I don't see how we can possibly pay Hardy 13 million or even work out a long term deal and keep Smitty.

I saw someone post that this tag would make CJ and Hardy count 21% towards the cap. Hardy is a luxury that we cannot afford at this time, smh...

With Gross retiring and the lack of weapons we have on offense, I just don't see how they can possibly fill these holes with the money we have. He's now going to have to restructure some more contracts just to sign Mitchell and Ginn.

We've always talked about our depth on the DL, well this is exactly why you have depth, for situations like this. I also think a trade is unlikely and that Hardy is most likely here to stay.

We saw first hand in the playoffs how we need weapons and OL help. So Gettleman breaks the bank for Hardy... Just no. I really hope there's some big plan and that we aren't giving hardy some long term deal at 12 million a year.

There's no guarantee they end up as good as Hardy. You don't ever, ever dump a rare, young talent like Hardy in the HOPES you get something else in the draft. This is precisely why message board posters aren't GMs
