Franchise tag it is

Well then if our line suffers and Cam is constantly getting hit and we have no receivers that will get open for Cam while other team's top receivers continue to burn us all because of this tag, then seriously fug Gettleman.

The tag is leverage though.  I don't see that happening...  I think the tag was given to him just so they could extend the negotiation period.  For all of Kraken's talk about money, he knows the Panthers want him, and he's said himself how much he looked forward to coming back next season and WINNING...  Now, it's time to put his money where his mouth is.  They clearly aren't going to lowball him if they're offering to pay him 12 mil for one season, so if he wants to get paid and still have a competitive team, he'll do a long-term deal prior to FA and we'll be all set.

If we keep him under the tag, good luck finding good help blocking for Cam Newton and solid weapons for him. Also continue to see our CBs getting burned because we have no one to cover other teams #1 and #2 receivers.

Seattle took a DT out of NCSU and turned him into a Super Bowl starting, pulling RG. Sometimes the OL is more about smarts and want-to rather than sheer talent.

It is on the players to block for Cam, so don go blaming the FO. Two years ago we led the team in rushing with half our OL on the DL. Yes, we need some more bodies up there and some WR to throw to, but this is a conservative and clock-hogging control offense, not some free-wheeling west coast crap offense.

Defense wins championships and we sure as heck have that. I can't count the number of defensive backs we've drafted and wasted picks on and the inly thing that has slowed opposing offenses has been pass rush and ball control.

So let Cam use his tools to get us where we need to be on offense and quit crying about paying offensive linemen who never stay healthy long enough to be worth their pay anyway

Yes, CJ and Kraken are as valuable to the defense and total team as Cam and DWill are. Eventually, our investments in Tolbert, Stew and DWill is gonna pay off and Cam is a huge part of that rushing attack. It's game management at its finest and keeping the ball on the ground makes for fewer mistakes and turnovers to overcome.

A DE is not anymore important than a LT! Keeping hardy is a luxury when we already have an elite pass rusher, now we have nobody to care for our supposed franchise qbs blindside, it's not a move I support, is rather build around my qb, what this is telling him is you been here three years oh yehyear four fug your weapons fug your protection you go win us games and try not to get hurt, it's wreck less.

Sorry, but it is no one else's fault but Gettleman's if he doesn't fill the void at LT with a solid player and upgrade the right side of the line or find weapons for Cam to throw to.

Just because we may be conservative doesn't mean we can just throw poo out there for Cam and say "here work with this".

Everyone keeps talking about our front 7 when it comes to our CBs. There were many times last season our CBs got burned by the other teams top receivers. You can point to our front 7 all you want, doesn't mean we should stick any Joe Shmoe back there in the backfield.

Yea LT is the 2nd most important position on a football team. Many posters forget that.

Understandable, but this isn't Hurney negotiating and pretending it's Monopoly money.  This will be a significant commitment, so I'm fine with them taking a little longer to hammer out the specifics.

Amazes me how many people think we've tagged him just to move him.

In reality, most tags are used to extend the time for them to successfully extend the player to a long-term contract, or he plays under that contract.

No franchise, not even Oakland, will give up two first round picks for Hardy.

I've got such mixed feelings.  I love the Kraken and I want him to be a Panther.  But if his salary keeps the team from improving through FA and our intention is to only keep him a year, then what was the point?  I'm assuming they're working towards a long term deal, so I'll keep myself from being fully reacting until then.

I don't know where these trade ideas are coming from, especially trades involving top ten picks. This is the NFL, players don't get traded like that, especially a DE who wants stupid money. Use Trent Richardson as an example all you want, Hardy isn't going to get traded and IMO this will be his last season as a member of the Panthers unless Gettleman does some serious cap work over the next few months.

Panthers want him but are not in a position to sign him long term. Not with CJ making what he does and the money Hardy will command. You cant tie up that much money into one position.

Gman ist dumb. I see us trading him for a 1st or 2nd.

Well we can't sign a good LT now in free agency and that jut angers me if I'm honest, it's almost an ignorant and arrogant move to keep hardy and ignore cam and the offense, and the offense will be ignored because we do not have the money now to make those moves, you don't put in a band aid at LT or #1 receiver to keep a second overpayed DE.
