Must be the only fan to not be delighted with this unless he's traded. So we lock up all our money in the defence and ignore our future qb and offense, you watch us play Byron Bell at LT, seriously Cam go to a franchise who actually gives a fug about you and who will build around you like the colts did with Andrew Luck, rather than pay two defensive ends a ton of money and leave you throwing balls to trash receivers whilst getting hit hard because your line is also trash, this isn't an exaggeration or ott post it's a fact, and to think most of you are cool with this really baffles me.

good to hear

"The franchise mechanism gives us time to secure the services of a very good player while we continue to look at the future of Greg with the Carolina Panthers,” general manager Dave Gettleman said. "We have had great dialogue with both Greg and his agent. It was important to keep our defensive front together.”

Gman is a good used "caaahh" salesman.

If he was going to keep Hardy, why say anything.  This is what you say when you want to remind the league how great DE's can transform your defense.  "are you listening Oakland?"

"while we continue to look at the future of Greg with the Carolina Panthers"  What kind of statement is that?

Maybe he has no future, who knows, but telling the league how valuable he is, was a good move.

so with around 21 mill under the cap, we just spent 15 on Hardy and Gano?

I know there is more wiggling to be done, but we just barely have enough to sign our draft picks.

Starting to feel we're gonna trade him, but I'm no expert in these things.

Also feeling afraid about Smitty.

Godfrey alone frees up enough for draft picks and yeah, not looking so hot for Mr. Smitty...sad but true.

All good things come to an end and I want nothing more than to see Smitty retire as a Panther, but his paycheck is far and above his production and it has been that way for a while.

This team is gonna get a lot younger but has the talent in key positions and leadership to maintain high caliber play while taking BPA to fill out our roster over the next 5+ seasons.

I'd take Kraken over Clowney any and every day and there's no really damning press surrounding Kraken.

I do not understand it either, unless there is a trade of some sort--Some people want a superstar at every position and others consider the cap very carefully before filling out their wish list.  You get both sides.

From all of the Panthers PR stuff coming out, it doesn't sound like they're considering trading Hardy at all...  Stuff like, "The Kraken is back for 2014!"  and "Retweet if you're happy to have Kraken back as a Panther for next season!"  Now, if someone came out and offered a Top 10-15 pick for him, I'm sure that would change.  But, it doesn't sound like they plan on trying to move him.  Rivera's statement said something about being excited to have him back for next season as well.

Cutting Smitty saves the team $1m in cap room, but if you add the salary of his replacement, it probably costs money.  Cutting him benefits the long-term cap picture.  However, if we pay his option this summer, it practically guarantees that we will pay (in 2016) a 37-year old WR $9m.  That is by far the most anyone has ever paid a 35+ WR.

Smitty needs to be convinced to take a pay cut.  If he does not, it could cause him to be released.

It doesn't sound like it at all.  Of course, they have not had any offers yet.

Well then if our line suffers and Cam is constantly getting hit and we have no receivers that will get open for Cam while other team's top receivers continue to burn us all because of this tag, then seriously fug Gettleman.

The greatest scenario in the world would be for Gman to get a 1st round pick from Oakland or Minnesota. Hepcat mentioned earlier, we could come out of this thing with one of the big three LT's.

That would make Hardy one of my favorite players for sure.

Just think, Robinson or Matthews at 5 or Lewan at 8.

Okay, I am starting to hyperventilate, let's change subjects.

I was thinking more along the lines of Cleveland going "full Browns" & giving us both round 1s & their high third.

Before you say that's impossible... Browns.
