This is a very well thought out and documented article.  It is exactly what many of us having been saying but stated better.  Smith will not be playing here next year if he doesn't restructure and could be cut anyway as his contract was never intended to be paid out through 2016.  As noted, this was a 2 year contract which would be renegotiated which is exactly what Gettleman is attempting to do.  Smith knew it as well I suspect so the whole I didn't have a clue doesn't ring true to me.  The article makes a convincing case to show that Smith won't get a better deal anywhere else nor will he be given the lattitude he will be given here.  I only hope his ego doesn't cloud his judgement like it has for many players who leave for greener pastures only to find that it is often not greener on the other side of the fence.

We can't replace smith bla bla. His less than 800yd is replaceable. We don't have to pay him that extra 3-4 million for his "presence" on the field and locker room presence. That's why u have a coach who is supposed to make sure players come to play on game day. Some of you get so emotional about players. Guess what, they're not playing for free, they made their millions from the team. It's a business, stop getting all sentimental and poo.

Since you're the one claiming they are part of the solution when they haven't done poo in the NFL you tell me why they are PART of the solution.

From what I studied of King before the draft last season I wasn't much of a fan. I view him as a poor mans Ginn.

It takes most WRs a year or two to adjust to the NFL. These 2 were a bit raw coming out of college.  Gettlemen has mentioned these 2 repeatedly. He even referenced Victor Cruz when discussing them.  Both have skill sets that we could use. He even said that we needed to make room for them to give them a chance to play.  Quite fraankly, they did not play early because they lack expereince.  (See my first point)  Secondly, QBs develop a rapport and chenistry with the WRs thar are playing, so you don't go insertng new people when you are winning.   I am talking about the 4th and 5th WRs here--can you name many 4th and 5th WRs in the league?  These 2, with Smitty, a free agent, and a rookie are likely to be our WR corps and they will likely, AS A GROUP, be better.

Some people on this site just want to argue and stray so far from the original point in an effort to win it is pathetic.  McNutt and King were not even my main point--but at least you were reacting to something I actually said this time.

The fact that Gettleman has mentioned this too repeatedly is more scary than anything else. You brought King and McNutt into the conversation, then you started picking parts of my posts to argue. I couldn't care less about winning some Internet argument, I even said we'd have to agree to disagree on this one. So get off your high horse.

My fear is that Gettleman might actually think so highly of these two that he doesn't draft a WR in the first 2 rounds. I agree our WR core will look something like you mentioned. But I rather have 2 rookies and Smitty and Ginn as the veterans. Would love to see us double dip at WR in the first two rounds and get quality WR's. Then draft Lyerla a bit later and I think these offense would be set for years to come.

Look, you replied to one of my posts with an incorrect assumption--I am just backing up my opinions.  We are not far apart on this, which is a bit puzzling, to be honest.

I don't think McNutt and King have enough proven influence to alter our draft strategy, Similarly, I am concerned that a high-profile free agent would alter our draft strategy and push WR into day 3.  I just do not see us missing on a WR in this draft.   I think we take a WR in the first or second round--it would be hard not to if we are taking BPA.

And in every mock I have done, I double dip at WR.  BPA and a need.
