I foresee us retaining Hardy one way or another at least for the next year.

I think we sign a band aid guy at LT and try to develop young guys for another year.

I think we make Godfrey take a pay-cut and save a few million dollars.

I also think we sign one veteran WR this offseason and try and develop the two young guys we have on the roster while keeping Steve Smith.

1st Brandon Cooks WR Oregon State 5-10 189 lbs- I love this kid and would love to have him and his explosive ability to make our offense explosive which it definitely was not this year.

alternate: Jordan Matthews 6-3 213 lbs WR Vanderbilt- This guy is also explosive, and he definitely showed his athletically ability but, this is for all you guys who want a "bigger" receiver although I don't care about size as much.

2nd Jack Mewhort OT Ohio State 6-6 309 lbs- We have obvious needs at tackle and we could make it a first round priority but I think we sign a free agent tackle and draft a right tackle which is what Mewhort can be on day one.

3rd Stanley Jean batiste CB Nebraska 6-3 215 lbs- I love big fast corners as do most people now a days but he is a raw prospect with a ton of upside and because of that he could be gone by this point.

Alternate: Keith McGill CB 6-3 211 lbs- I might like McGill even more than Baptiste by the time it's all said and done because he has more experience but in case Baptiste is gone McGill is a good 2nd option.

4th Juwann James OT Tennessee 6-6 311 lbs- Once again we obviously need tackle help and we know Gman is okay with double dipping. I'm expecting the free agent tackle we sign to be a one year band aid until we get out of cap trouble. So here is a guy who will hopefully be able to contribute in a couple of years.

Alternate: Cyrus Kouandjio OT Alabama 6-7 322- I know nobody likes him because of the knee issues and right now we really don't know what his draft stock is, although we know it isn't first round, this could be a value pick to where if it doesn't work out it's not as big of a deal, but if it does great

5th Antone Exum 6-0 213 lbs Virginia Tech- A big bodies corner that didn't run great at the combine but could be good for us especially if we opt to not pay Munnerlyn.

Alternate: Walt Aiken 6-1 205 lbs CB Liberty- A small school guy who could come in with a chip on his shoulder since he wasn't invited to the combine.

6th A.C. Leonard 6-2 252 lbs TE Tennessee State- Good athlete with character issues. The panthers usually don't go for guys like this but if they did it might prove worth it.

alternate: Xavior Grimble 6-5 257 TE USC- A guy who is good at blockin with a little less athletic ability but can catch better than heartsock and could contribute in different ways, plus we all know that we would love to see some more 2 TE sets like we did during Cams rookie year.

7th Tyler Star OLB South Dakota 6-4 249 lbs- A popular late round pick that could help us with our depth at linebacker of we decide not to retain Blackburn and that could learn behind Davis before he retires.

I'm just not not a big fan of Mewhort and Stanley Jean-Baptiste. For whatever reason it is, those two names has come up on this board a couple of times now just this week. I guess I'm just not seeing the same things.

 

I have a 3rd round grade on Mewhort and do not believe the hype of the tall corner-back trend. It only work in Seattle.

 

I like Starr as a late round pick, but I would much rather go with Max Bullough of MSU in the 5th or 6th. The kid is highly productive, but has some red flags. Still, he's too good of a player to pass up in this draft.

 

Again, Exum is was one of my favorite player last year. But, as I watched more and more of him I just lost interests in him. He'll likely transition into a safety in the NFL due to his size and built. The thing I hate about him is his lack of effort in tackling. Either it is a "lack of effort" or the kid is just afraid to make hit; probably both. However, Exum is pretty damn good in coverage.

I like bullough and think he would be a steal if we get him in the 5th or 6th

I also get my rankings from cbs so that's where I got the 2nd round Mewhort grade. I just think that an OT there would be perfect in this scenario so you can plug in whoever you want.

I also saw someone compare Exum to Charles Godfrey in the sense that they feel like he can also switch to safety, so if that's true then it would be nice since our safeties could use an upgrade.

I wasn't a fan of SJB coming here, simply because he played press man with his back to the ball at Nebraska. We don't do that, so when people say they "like" him...what do they like? Size? How will he fit the defense? HOWEVER, he was forced to play off at the Senior Bowl and read the QB great and showed the ability to break on the ball...would take. I don't see James in round 4. 2nd round maybe.

I like the Juwann James pick, but would we really draft two right tackles? Maybe we skip Mewhort and use that 2nd to double dip at wr, or grab a cb.

If we want a tall corner, Roberson is the way to go. He's not 6''3, but he's 6''0 and is lengthy. I would not mind McGill since he's a natural corner and showed some fluid hips at the combine. I would not touch SJB, unless we plan to make him a safety.

Roberson is projected to go late 1st-2nd. He has 1st round talent and was UF best cover corner. Only 6''0 but looks a lot taller bc he's so lengthy. Mayock mistaken him for McGill during one of the drill at the combine.

 

If we just want height again, Kyler Fuller is another guy. I would not touch McGill until the 3rd and SJB unless it's the 4th.

 

 

 

 

I think most Carolina fans are making too much out of Mayock and other expert's comments about the new tall cornerback trend. McGill and SJB are not Sherman nor are they Browner. If you want McGill or SJB due to their football abilities then "yes", but if you just want to be a copycat of Seattle then "NO".

 

People tends to not realize that Sherman and Browner are very damn "good" corners who are just lucky to be tall. Both could be 5'10 and would still be the same football players they are today. Not every team can go and draft tall cb and make them those guys. It only work in Seattle, bc their both talented and having the best safety in the game today in Earl Thomas. Thomas is the heart and soul in that secondary, not Sherman. He covers a lot of ground and force opponents to play the short passing game instead of the deep ball.

 

 

 

People forget that there was a "tall" corner-back in this league before both Browner and Sherman. I wanted this guy badly but Hurney was too dumb to see it, and took a guy named Sherrod Martin ahead of him. Like McGill, Sean Smith was another similar corner that came out of Utah too. Sean Smith is 6"3 but is no Browner or Sherman bc of the system he played in Miami/KC. This so called, "tall corner back" trend is just a media hype. It only work in Seattle and Seattle only. Mayock was making the same statement last year during the combine, and still Seattle is the only team to have tall corners. Teams are not falling for it bc they know it doesnt work.
