Kelvin Benjamin loves the panthers

two new mocks came out today have us taking Kelvin at 28 (the #6 WR taken in both after Beckham, Lee, Cooks, Evans, Watkins)

"This is perhaps the biggest layup of the first round ...Benjamin is the best of the remaining first rounder’s and he isn’t a bad option here at 28. I’m not as sold on him as most but he is a big target for Cam Newton. At 6-5 and 240 pounds, Benjamin has rare size and is a physical mismatch vs. defensive backs and linebackers. He will not easily be knocked off course and will enter the middle on crossers and coupled with his outstanding jump ball catching abilities, could give the bigger NFC corners fits."

yeah, I've soured on him big time. If I were to make a list of REALISTIC players we could draft at 28, he wouldn't be in my top 5. People always say how "raw" he is...but come on...he's 23. I think he's pretty close to reaching his ceiling. I really hope he's gone by 28 so the Panthers aren't tempted to take him.

Something else to consider, and I'm kinda joking but not really, is that blowhard Mark James on WFNZ is all over this guy. If you go back and look at his "analysis" for the Bobcats/Panthers post/pre draft since he's got here, it's not good.

Yeah, haha. Not trying to derail the thread, but Mark James basically gave Rich Cho and MJ a handjob for drafting MKG a few years ago, now his show has turned into a MKG bash-a-thon 3 times a week. I heard MKG has big time social anxiety/depression issues, and I really hope he doesn't hear all the bad things that's said about him on that station.

I still remember him ripping the Panthers for drafting Luke over Fletcher Cox.

Also, and you have to take this with a grain of salt, but Alex Marvez said that Kelvin basically told an NFL scout from an unnamed team to fug off after the guy made a special trip to see him. Not good if true.

Now let me just clarify before the trolls come a trollin - I wouldn't mind if they picked him, as long as an extensive background check was performed on him and they didn't use our first on him. Just off the top of my head...Cooks, Morgan Moses, and Dennard are guys I'd take over him.

This is why it's probably a bad idea to comment if you know little about football development.  How is 23 someone's athletic ceiling, let alone in football? This isn't you running around in your backyard pickup game.

Receivers can take years to develop, and Benjamin has played only 2 seasons of college football, with this year being his breakout year. The guy is very raw, and far from developed.

On that note however, I wouldn't take him in the first round, and I doubt you'd be hearing near as much about him if Florida State hadn't won the national championship and if he hadn't caught the game winner.
