Ron Jaworski: "I wouldn't take Manziel in the first three rounds"

Although Jaws was and has been wrong about Cam and Kaep I will have to agree with him here about the beloved Johnny Football.

IMO Manziel makes some of the most amazing plays I have ever seen but he also makes his share of horrible ones to balance that out. I just think his limitations of his size, average arm strength and limited experience reading defenses will hinder him at the next level. Russell Wilson has the same size limitation if not shorter but he has elite arm strength and can read defenses...but most importantly had the mental makeup and maturity that i think Manzel lacks today.

I really agree with Todd Mcshay on his assessment from watching film on Manziel. He said that Manziel makes a lot of horrible decisions in each game and then makes an incredible play to bail him out and wonders how successful that will bein the NFL. He does not view Manziel as a give him the ball and he will win the game guy no matter what the team looks like. One series Johnny will look all world and the next the worst QB ever.

He thinks Manziel can have success but said the team he goes to would have to have the perfect structure...support.. offensive scheme..and worries that teams at the top of the draft that may not offer that...which is typical in the top 5 of most drafts.

Manziel is a big time boom-bust player. That being said, I honestly think he's the #1 pick if the Texans don't go Clowney. Problem with this years class of QB's is that with such a talented blue chip group of players at other positions and the fact none of the QB's are without a major flaw. Makes it difficult to predict especially considering how many teams in the top 10 are desperate for a QB.

Then what would be the reasoning behind someone drafting something like that? That's why I say by the time May come he will fall off everyone's board. I doubt he's even on anyone's board. And the fall out already begins:

This makes sense because I don't believe Cleveland's new GM won't put his job on the line for Manziel because people get fired pretty quick there. Jacksonville's head coach is probably on the hot seat so he has to at least make right by this pick. So, they won't take unnecessary risk. The Raider's owner already put their coaching staff on a short leash, I can assure you they won't see Manziel as their savior. That leaves the Texans, the only reason the media is yapping about the them picking Manziel is because he's from Texas. But what the media doesn't realize is the Texans already decided to pick Bridgewater. That's why he didn't run at the combine. Obrien assured him he won't be coming to Houston for his running ability. Remember, you heard it here first.

There's a line in "the Legend of Bagger Vance" where the narrator mentions that one of the golfers understood the principle that two or three bad shots could be made up for by one spectacular one.

 

That can be true in football as well...to a point.

That can be true in football as well...to a point.

I don't think those golfers had 300 pound DTs going at their knee and head to concuss them. And two pick 6s can put the other team up 14 by the time you get your 'one spectacular' TD.

He's not the only who thought he wouldn't go 1st round. Cleveland had a pick to waste. That's all. And it's more a business decision than sport. There's report ticket sale has skyrocketed for cleveland. The problem will come when he's not able to beat Hoyer. Weeden, Quinn, and Johnny, lucky 22.

Like someone else already posted, he was drafted because of a business decision. He won't even be able to beat out the 3rd string, just like his counterpart T3bow. And again, a business decision will get him the starting job.
