Steve Smith on Gettleman's "Evaluation" comment

Johnny Rockets

He's a leader because of who he is and how long he's been here. From what you hear, he's not always the best of leaders. Cam and Luke are young, hard for them to take over when Smith is still here. His Age and production is still a factor. " increase in drops the last two seasons"

He is a leader, period. If Cam is a leader and Luke is a leader then they will be one no matter who else is in the locker room.It is ridiculous to say this is about ushering in the age of Cam and Luke , that will be done on it's own.We need to get rid of TD because he is horning in on Lukes territory.absolutely ridiculous and any GM who would orchestrate what you are suggesting is an idiot and any who would subscribe to that approach is lower than an idiot.

Jordan Matthews, Brandin Cooks,Odell Beckham,...

Of course! Let's force a rookie wideout to start immediately, pinning all our hopes on it working. Who cares if we wouldn't have any real receiving other options - we must make a move for the sake of making a move! Besides, its not like Cam is going to be running for his life with a rebuilt line and Byron Bell at LT or anything

yes of course. you miss the point. Move Smitty to slot put Rookie on the outside. That is a no brainer. Rookies start all the time. This is not to replace Smith but relieve the pressure where he will shine. Smith would be a killer in the slot. Who you going to cover him with your #1 at the slot, good then the outside boys wear out the rest of the cb's.smity would be the lead receiver from the slot, he would be unstoppable.

we have to make a move at WR . i am not talking about getting rid of Smith on the contrary.

Johnny Bench had "One more good year" in him said some idiot in 1979.........................................it never happened.

The greats have their day in the sun and then they turn into raisins.

Nothing wrong with raisins..if you like farting a lot.

My point is...Krylon has no runs, no drips, no errors.

And SS plays for something reasonable in 2014 or he is cut.

Kraken got fed today, it was a good day.

Players under 30 are the future...

Dear Heel,

I cheer as vehemently for the Carolina Panthers as do you.  I was at their first ever home game and have proudly posted pics on this site for verification and ego stroking for at least 16 days (maybe longer).  I currently have 28 items in my man-cave that are from the first 3 years of this franchise's existence.

God as my witness I LOVE this team.  Hell, I love SS.  I got laid the first night they were on television for Pete's sake (not as exciting as you might think).

I feel like me and you are brothers and we have both just been told that our armor-chested, Popeye-armed dad has cancer and he will not make it to see another fall.  I have accepted the fact that it may be true but you are in denial.

I love him too, but you are just not seeing what the facts are telling.

We cannot pay him what he is owed on his current contract and move forward.

The first jersey I bought my son (when he was too young to have any say about it) was a SS jersey in 2003.  The first jersey I bought my son (when he was old enough to ask) was a A jersey in 2007.

I love the man but replacement on the roster or not, changes are coming.

wait... give me a minute...Ok I'm better now. Sorry but this has nothing to do with all that crap. if Smith was done then I would say so. this is about the reality that Steve Smith is now and will be next season our best receiver.I do not want to get rid of a player like that who still can play and who still has that fire to to fight. i am sure if that was gone he would say so and move on.Now the money he may restructure but either way we can pay him and one way or another we will.I have no SS jerseys.

the facts? I have not seen the facts that say he is to be cut or needs to be cut or maybe cut.here is the fact.Listen close. Steve Smith will be on the roster for the Panthers next season end of story.

I love steve too but he was consistently putting up 50-60 yds a game this season. This is a noticeable drop compared to previous seasons.

I would expect about the same production next year as well and there might be a slight decrease in yardage.

You dont get better with age with this point. Once you get to the mid 30s there is a significant drop off. You basically lose that half second in speed to separate from defenders.

I don't know if a 1/2 second is accurate but I get the point. He is not the deep threat and he shouldn't have to be now. He may have lost a step long but he is still quick as ever on short routes and that is why he is still dangerous. That is why the obvious move(reduced role if you may) is the slot. would he draw a double team in the slot? Would he draw the #1 cb ?  Move him to slot and he catches 80+ with 100 not out of the question. He would be unstoppable, he and we would be unstoppable.Steve Smith in the slot opens up the whole offense . How you going to cover him and Olsen on the inside and worry about Ginn long or a Matthews/Cooks/Beckham...?... down field?

Many here are giddy with new found GM fever.
