The Offensive Tackle Free Agent Market

Hey the Observer took a look at the market:

In free agency

Bengals T Anthony Collins: Pro Football Focus ranked him 16th among all tackles in pass protection last season when he took over for Andrew Whitworth. The Bengals reportedly would like to re-sign Collins, but they are unwilling to overpay him. For the same amount of money, Collins could see more benefit in protecting Cam Newton as opposed to Andy Dalton.

Ravens T Eugene Monroe: The 2009 first-round pick may not return to Baltimore, which might not have the money to re-sign him. He signed a five-year, $26.25 million deal when he entered the league, and he’ll be looking for a big second deal. If he finds a soft market waiting for him in two weeks at the start of free agency, the Panthers could be his landing spot.

Dolphins T Jonathan Martin: He has been out of football for a year because of the hazing/bullying scandal in Miami, but after the independent investigator’s report on what really happened in the locker room, teams may be more inclined than before to sign him. Martin isn’t a franchise left tackle, but he’ll be cheap and serviceable. He’s also going to enter a locker room and an offensive linemen room that’s warm, accepting and full of veterans.

In the draft

Notre Dame T Zack Martin: Martin didn’t allow a sack at Notre Dame in 2013 after allowing one in 2012. If teams picking above the Panthers at No. 28 view Martin as............................

If there is one position we should splurge on its LT.

The 2 most logical long term solutions out there are Eugene Monroe and Brandon Albert.

Anybody else would be a huge dropoff from what we had in Gross and while they may be cheaper I don't see them being a better overall value.

Sadly I doubt we even have the money to splurge. Teams are going to be throwing money at these guys we cant even get close to. IMHO Gross really ended this year with his retirement. We needed a LT we could draft and groom and thats just not going to happen now.

im fairly sure don will be only signing cheap options, draft is whole different deal. huddle needs a dream forum with some of these "hopes"

campbell - is a guy i have little to no hope in, but i believe he could only get a vet min deal and hes been here 2 years. bell is 3x the player. even a non-guaranteed contract at the very most.

gary williams- swing guy that can play 4 spots, but is he already 400lbs? last time he had a bad injury, it took him 2 full years to get into football shape.

chandler- right now if the panthers had a game, he would be starting LT. hes shown the ability to fill in, but starting at LT?? hes the best option currently,

oy vey.

the 3 future contracts, well miami invested 2 years in one of them, the others where either bouncers, truck drivers, or movers(my guess). so.... PANIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
