Is G-man getting a rep for poor-mouthing? *LOL*

When announcing the news of a possibly increasing salary cap, Marc Sessler of nfl.com apparently quoted who some consider the poster boy for "bemoaning" cap-strapped teams:

We think immediately of Carolina general manager Dave Gettleman, who repeatedly at the combine called the Panthers a "cap-strapped" club with minimal wiggle room to re-sign its own players, much less anyone else's.

"We don't have a choice," Gettleman said, bemoaning the cap's slow growth. "What hasn't happened yet is the agents and the players don't understand that the money isn't there the way it used to be."

At least a little more of that money will be available to Gettleman and other financially challenged general managers in 2014.

Yes, I am being a bit facetious, but I wonder if G-man's tune will substantially change once he gets the budget just the way he likes it.  It will be fun to see. "Bemoaning" the cap really fits his personality well, even if he's correct that we don't have a whole lot of wiggle room.

I think DG has a legit reason to complain. Not so much the league, but the agents and players trying to suck teams dry for every dime. I understand these good players like Hardy and AP  deserve nice contracts for their talents. But sometime players like this try to kill there team cap by wanting more and more money. These players sometime don't undestand the key word team game. They see the $ign and team game goes out the door. If a few top players on teams would stop trying to hog more then half the cap all the time. Maybe teams wouldn't be in cap hell all the time. These talented players would understand so long as they get a nice contract, but also don't ask for the whole cap. Then teams can do a better job at signing more key players to help win. But until the NFL puts a stop the greed. Things will keep getting worse every year in the NFL for teams.

having the top free agent plus hes a DE, cam needs a deal, luke next year needs a deal, billion dollar backfield, best
OT retired, cj, kalil, olsen are great players getting HOF 1st ballot money, he still has to follow whatever jerrry rich wants( just like marty did).best value contracts where one year deal that are FAs. to him the cap would be a problem.

And you wonder why teams like the Raiders and Browns never win anything. Because the owners keep their hands in the GMs business. If you hire them to mange your team. Then let them do their job and get out. If you want to keep losing. Then fire the GM and make yourself GM.

this is the advantage to having good quality depth across the board. not only can a player be replaced when they're injured...they can be replaced when they command too much money.

carolina isn't strapped for cash just because hurney paid out big bucks, they're strapped for cash because they had no quality depth to account for the players they were forced to pay.
