Godzilla looks pretty badass

So without spoilers can someone give me a reasonable estimate as to how much screen time Godzilla actually has in the film?

Saw it this weekend. There is maybe 10 minutes of total Godzilla footage. 5 of him swimming or whatnot, 5 of him kicking ass.

I thought it was pretty awesome as summer movies go. But then I saw it with my wife and daughter, so they got to see their love story family drama inserted into a monster movie.

I wouldn't have made it through 25 minutes of Pacific Rim before my wife would have said let's go we're leaving, and yet she liked Godzilla so take that for what it's worth.

Yeah, about right. Pretty paltry for the eponymous hero.

Like I said, "Nicholas Sparks presents: Godzilla"

Can't understand American's obsession with Godzilla seeing as how it was created to be anti-America but whatever floats your boat

You can't understand why watching an unmatchable and violent force smashing hapless third world countries, pulverizing inferior militarizes and massacring innocent civilians would be appealing to Americans?

That's kind of our thing.

Saw it last night in IMAX 3D. Went in with high expectations and was underwhelmed but that was my first IMAX experience which made it worth seeing. If I saw it in regular movie mode I probably would have dozed off. Admittedly, this is not my movie genre at all.

As many have said, much of the movie is about the characters all of which are terrible. You get absolutely no connection with them whatsoever, yet they try so hard to make you care. I must say that the visuals were fantastic though. There are some really good things about the movie and some really bad ones as well. I just think with some better actors and character development (since they tried to force them on you), this movie could have been much better. I would recommend seeing it in IMAX but not in regular format.

I liked it. Will see sequel. But I have to agree with others that there simply wasn't enough Godzilla in the movie. I just saw it yesterday.

The thing that would piss me off the most is that whenever the monsters would start to fight it would cut away right as they made contact to some human melodrama that I didn't give a poo about.

The son who was 80% of the movie had the acting ability and charisma of a bedpost. I really didn't give a poo about him and it seemed like most of the movie the monsters were a back drop to this other shittier movie about him getting to San Francisco to save his wife and kid.

So after all that complaining why did I like it and will see the sequel?

Because Godzilla was a badass. He was well done and whenever he was onscreen you were on the edge of your seat. He just wasn't there enough and the primary storyline wasn't compelling enough to keep my interest.

But, again, Godzilla himself was AWESOME and I will go see again!!!

So, went to see this a few weeks ago.  Meant to comment on it sooner, but hey...

Short take: Agree with those who say The Big G doesn't get enough screen time.  Also not a big fan of the whole 'nature balances itself' theme, although I like the idea of treating Godzilla as an unstoppable force of nature like they did in the 85 movie.

One subtext I definitely did like though is that Godzilla came across as kind of apathetic to mankind, which is what you might expect of an actual reptile.  He's not our protector, not our predator.  To him we're just kind of...there, like ants are to mankind.

And bottom line: Where the film does deliver is in the things that every nerd who shelled out money to watch this flick came for: an ass kicking Godzilla, and Godzilla kicking ass.  The first 'atomic breath' shot was especially awesome, and his 'finishing moves' on the enemy creatures (whose name escapes me) were pretty cool.

So overall, pretty good, short of great, but set up nicely for better sequels.
