Kalil and Stewart Restructure

I never cared for trying to extend Stewart in the first place, simply because his style of running doesn't lend to a long NFL career. Williams' issues are well beyond discussed and exhausted at this point, but he's been the more durable option. I'd be very surprised if this wasn't Williams' last season in our uniform, and we then say goodbye to Stewart in the next couple years...

What! Lynch, Peterson, Gore, Morris, and list can go on. .......What we need is a improved OL which we will get with return of Amini & Kugbilla and along with a draft of a Tackle.

This is the first time in a while Stewart will go through the off-season program and will be ready for the 14' season from the beginning.  I bet Stewart is the team leading rusher with a 1,000yds season.

I really want to be that guy who laughs at the folks who were claiming that we wouldn't have the money to sign our own FA, let alone any other players. But hey, hubby don't play that game.

If I am correct, and I think I am. We have plenty of money to not only sign Hardy. But...maybe even a FA OT, resign Mitchell, and Ginn Jr., And still have some left over to buy Gross a great retirement gift.

And...we still have a few players we can redo, like Smitty and CJ, so we should be in pretty good shape heading forward.

The moral of the story. If you want to worry and fret. Take up golf.

And about 20 other FAs we must try to sign as well. Not counting that the fact we much sign our draft picks as well. We are still working on a tight budget right now.

No one's wanting an offensive line improvement more than I am, but I'm not ready to put all my trust in Kug yet, and even Amini's got something to prove. Futhermore, even if Stewart starts staying consistently healthy for the first time in years, we still have way too much money tied up in running backs, and Williams is the easiest out currently. And with Stewart's propensity to get hurt, I'm by no means comfortable trusting him to reverse the course of history with a body that's been failing him for years now.

Who are we gonna play in the event Williams goes down if we cut Stew? Tolbert and Barnes? Come on man

you can find comparable RB talent easily for a 31 year old Williams. For cheap.

People still talk about Williams like he is a top tier rusher. He most likely will look even worse this year and he wasn't impressive last year

Moreno or Tate.  I'd take either.  Don't know how much they would command though.  Are they expensive?

Neither of those restructures resulted in the player getting less money.  It is funny how fans think the players giving up money in these situations.

That's true theoretically if a player only restructures one time and stays for the remainder of his contract.  But DG is going to restructure Stew every single off season.   He is going to restructure several players deals several times.  So if a player is in a constant state of having to restructure every off season, then well we do save some money don't we?

nope.

ultimately, all this does is increase the amount of dead money that the team is held accountable over after that player is off the roster.

restructuring is like putting a band aid on a gash that needs stitches...it'll temporarily keep the wound together, but it won't stop the bleeding.

Well a band aid over a gash is better then nothing over a gash.

Thanks for the clarification.  I thought I would be better at this cap stuff considering that I come from a family of jewish accountants.

It's good for the team for sure.  But JStew is still getting his money (in fact he gets some of it quicker).  I just am tired of people starting threads acting like the players are doing some great dead to benefit the team and they are some type of saint for giving up money.

It's true....in most cases they get more up front which serves as motivation for signing a restructure.

There are some cases where a player is going to lose money.  Small percentage....namely veterans who get extended pass the point where they're expected to play.

For instance if we signed Smith to a 3 year extension worth 18 mil that's a back loaded contract.  He'd be retired before he saw that 3rd year...which would save us money in that case.   That's definitely the exception that proves the rule though.

I wish Smith would take a pay cut and after he's done playing we send him an anonymous check or something to make up the difference.

But what you're forgetting is that the salary cap increases each year.  So while we're not technically saving any money, we're pushing back the payment until we have more money to work with.

So ultimately, these restructures ARE helping us.  And anyone who says otherwise is failing to see the big picture.

    • The coach- Canales was a rookie hc and at times looked like it. But he did manage to revamp the offense, helped Bryce not look like the biggest bust of the draft, exuded positivity,  and made the panthers watchable again. We have a viable head coach for the first time since rivera The gm- Morgan had some hits and some big misses. Hits- the ol, Coker, demani, dj at first. Misses- almost every d player signed, brooks, the jury is out on x. I get what he was trying to do with brooks/Hubbard but it blew up in his face. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes. But he did trade mingo for a 4th, managed to get a 2nd rounder this year from the Rams and I am a fan of constantly churning the bottom of the roster The draft- x can be a solid player but not until he catches the ball, brooks was a high risk pick that didn't work out, Wallace, demani and Chau Smith can be solid contributors and showed glimpses, Coker and jt should be mainstays. And flipping a 7th round lb that was about to be cut for Jackson was a great move.  The offense- had its ups and downs but Bryce has turned from one of the biggest busts in nfl history to a potential franchise qb, that change is worth its weight in gold, thielen was crafty and underrated as usual, Coker was a gem, jt was the solid but has some growing to do, and Hubbard has been awesome, the o line was much improved as well The defense- well...they set records, injuries, poor coaching (imo), bad playcalling and just plain sucking this defense needs everything to change, we need horn and Jackson back and we get brown back but we need bodies and an identity. If they can do with the def what they did with the o then we can challenge for the division bc we already have some pieces there.  Overall- this was a growth year full of questions and some of the major ones were answered(qb, coach). For the first time in a long time the season didn't end depressingly and I do have cautious optimism for next year. But they need to learn from the mistakes of 2024 and if they do I like where this team is headed. On to the draft and 2025
    • I disagree. It’s not hard to double a WR and still play the run. It’s called a bracket which you can use with a drop down safety or an OLB. Look up how it’s done. Also in obvious passing situations, doubling a wr is not hard. Falcons torched us in obvious passing situations time after time. 2 min drill, 3rd and long to where there’s no excuse to not focus more on Drake London. Mooney was out. London was the only WR Penix was looking at.  Evero simply can’t make adjustments. He’ll most likely be fired next year. Wish we would’ve just ripped the bandaid off this year. To call all people morons who think we can do better than Evero is a very ignorant and arrogant statement. Who the hell are you?
    • As a rookie head coach, I think he exceeded expectations.  We looked competitive in almost all our games.  I don't think he's hit his ceiling.  7 of 10 for this year.
