Kalil and Stewart Restructure

wasn't that what hurney was banking on when he signed those big deals in the first place?

Possibly.  I can't speak for the man, but I am personally all for a GM that is vested in putting the money on the lines as opposed to the skill positions.

As of right now, in addition to some tremendous talent on the Dline, Keuchly is a monster that will command a lot of respect in league for years to come.  If Cam keeps developing as he does, all we need to do is make sure that his Oline comes in with their hats on to make the next couple of years a solid foundation for being an actual perennial contender.

Why would DG do the same thing that lost his predecessor his job? The cap will go up and DG was not brought in to do a fire sell. Obviously he sees something in Stewart that compelled him to keep him.

I really want to be that guy who laughs at the folks who were claiming that we wouldn't have the money to sign our own FA, let alone any other players. But hey, hubby don't play that game.

If I am correct, and I think I am. We have plenty of money to not only sign Hardy. But...maybe even a FA OT, resign Mitchell, and Ginn Jr., And still have some left over to buy Gross a great retirement gift.

And...we still have a few players we can redo, like Smitty and CJ, so we should be in pretty good shape heading forward.

The moral of the story. If you want to worry and fret. Take up golf.

i'll tell you what he's not seeing, and that's a healthy stewart which is something i feel no longer exists for very long.

and if this was all that DG's team management consisted of...and by that, i mean pushing money backwards, then we'd be in deep poo. DG is doing so many things better than hurney that i don't like comparing them, but when see stuff like this i really don't like it.

we need to be moving on from these old, oft injured, largely ineffective, and far too expensive RBs we've been stuck with.

unless i see 1) stewart all of a sudden magically showing himself worth the cap commitment or 2) this restructuring being such that it enables us to move away from him without killing our cap i will be critical of this.

i don't see us keeping stewart and williams this year, nor do i really want us to. if i had to choose between the two, i would pick williams just because he's been more reliable lately and done more while on the field than stewart who just looks slow and lost out there.

I never cared for trying to extend Stewart in the first place, simply because his style of running doesn't lend to a long NFL career. Williams' issues are well beyond discussed and exhausted at this point, but he's been the more durable option. I'd be very surprised if this wasn't Williams' last season in our uniform, and we then say goodbye to Stewart in the next couple years...

Like a prohibitive contract.

Make no mistake. If Stews contract weren't so bad, he would be on his last shot. Take the field and produce, or see ya. The contract he has. He will be here regardless of how he plays, or doesn't play if recent history is to be repeated.

I love Stewy. He is a beast when he is healthy. Unfortunately, he is rarely healthy. By the time the season rolls around, he will have had almost 2 full years to get healthy. And we still don't know if he can contribute or not.

I know you cannot predict things like this. But, man, he is killing us.

The Stewart restructure is relatively small, and Gettleman is just pushing his hit until we can better absorb it.  His contract already prohibited us from doing anything with him for another year or two, so this just gives us some current flexibility as we wait him out.  And by the time we're able to do something with him, our cap will be in very good shape, allowing us to better handle his cap hit.

Right now, we are desperate for cap space, and have an urgent need to bring in a vet OT (along with a draft pick), as well as give Cam an extension and get ready to give one to Kuechly next year.  And that's not even considering the Hardy situation or our other FA's.  So Gettleman is just putting us in a position to fill our current needs while getting our core locked up for the future.

    • The coach- Canales was a rookie hc and at times looked like it. But he did manage to revamp the offense, helped Bryce not look like the biggest bust of the draft, exuded positivity,  and made the panthers watchable again. We have a viable head coach for the first time since rivera The gm- Morgan had some hits and some big misses. Hits- the ol, Coker, demani, dj at first. Misses- almost every d player signed, brooks, the jury is out on x. I get what he was trying to do with brooks/Hubbard but it blew up in his face. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes. But he did trade mingo for a 4th, managed to get a 2nd rounder this year from the Rams and I am a fan of constantly churning the bottom of the roster The draft- x can be a solid player but not until he catches the ball, brooks was a high risk pick that didn't work out, Wallace, demani and Chau Smith can be solid contributors and showed glimpses, Coker and jt should be mainstays. And flipping a 7th round lb that was about to be cut for Jackson was a great move.  The offense- had its ups and downs but Bryce has turned from one of the biggest busts in nfl history to a potential franchise qb, that change is worth its weight in gold, thielen was crafty and underrated as usual, Coker was a gem, jt was the solid but has some growing to do, and Hubbard has been awesome, the o line was much improved as well The defense- well...they set records, injuries, poor coaching (imo), bad playcalling and just plain sucking this defense needs everything to change, we need horn and Jackson back and we get brown back but we need bodies and an identity. If they can do with the def what they did with the o then we can challenge for the division bc we already have some pieces there.  Overall- this was a growth year full of questions and some of the major ones were answered(qb, coach). For the first time in a long time the season didn't end depressingly and I do have cautious optimism for next year. But they need to learn from the mistakes of 2024 and if they do I like where this team is headed. On to the draft and 2025
    • I disagree. It’s not hard to double a WR and still play the run. It’s called a bracket which you can use with a drop down safety or an OLB. Look up how it’s done. Also in obvious passing situations, doubling a wr is not hard. Falcons torched us in obvious passing situations time after time. 2 min drill, 3rd and long to where there’s no excuse to not focus more on Drake London. Mooney was out. London was the only WR Penix was looking at.  Evero simply can’t make adjustments. He’ll most likely be fired next year. Wish we would’ve just ripped the bandaid off this year. To call all people morons who think we can do better than Evero is a very ignorant and arrogant statement. Who the hell are you?
    • As a rookie head coach, I think he exceeded expectations.  We looked competitive in almost all our games.  I don't think he's hit his ceiling.  7 of 10 for this year.
