At some point we are going to take the cap hits. We keep pushing them back but eventually these guys are going to give up base salary with nothing in return or get cut with huge dead money.

Me too but I believe his time will come. He either takes a paycut next year or he could be a June 1st cut.

Agreed might be for next year with Cam or hold off until Kuechly + Star's contract

I feel like everyone in here always assumes the worst about the salary cap. Gettleman knows everything about these restructures. We know almost nothing. It's probably better than you think it is.

i believe don dave says the panthers are in cap hell, cause hes factoring some new contracts. ie cam, hardy, unknown WR/OL. plus hes looking towards the future on luke, star, and kk deals....thats a poop ton of money too. panthers have bout 60mill in space come 2015

Stew already had a high cap number for 2015. Maybe this restructure goes towards lowering that in some way too?

No it's just moving .75M from salary to bonus (added it to the ~6 option bonus that he is putting in his bank in the next few days). They had to pay him this new signing bonus though because if not his cap hit this year would have accelerated that ~$6M to now.

 

Joel Corry mentioned this a few weeks back. Really all said and done the only restructuring done in all of this was they added a void year and moved .75 over to that $6M new bonus and spread it out over 5 years instead of the 4 years he had left with us. Thus earning about .9M in new space.

Not sure what the deal with Stew is but if we reduce his cap hit this year we can at least see if he stays healthy and we get a good season out of him.
