Pizza Inn in Spartanburg

Pizza Inn does not have the best pizza in the world. But if you're at morning practice and you get hungry for lunch, it's about as good an option as you're gonna find within a five mile radius.

For breakfast, try Papa's Breakfast Nook, just up the road across from that Marriott on St. John's St. Greasy skillet place but great omelettes and reasonable prices.

The Real Deal on Union has a good cheesesteak and there's always Wade's for the classic neither here nor there meat and three.

Spartanburg is the only place I have ever heard that term used (meat and three). Must be a local tradition?

There was a Wild Wing Cafe downtown we ate at last year with some talent on the waitstaff. On the brightside they were serving us beer so you know they were at least 18. Not to mention the fact that they have an all you can eat wing buffet during lunch.

And Wild Wing is BACK!!! (It closed for a few months, but now is open with new management.)

Also downtown is Delaney's (Irish Pub), Mellow Mushroom (pizza, calzones, etc.), Brasserie Ecosse (upscale, expensive dining, but very good), Justin's Steakhouse (great steaks, expensive, though), Groucho's (sandwiches), Lime Leaf (Thai), Venus Pie (good local pizza spot).

Also near camp -- across Pine Street (in addition to McDonald's and Long John Silver's, yuck!), is Basil's Grill (salads, sandwiches, pastas -- Greek centered), Mutt's BBQ (good stuff), Wade's (as someone said, meat-and-three, very good), Corona (Mexican - great!), Sun King Chinese buffet.

Oh, and I forgot Sonny's Brickoven Pizza downtown (Daniel Morgan Ave. near St. John Street, behind QS/1 building).

They named a street down there after our beloved #55? Sweet! :D

I prefer the Krispy Kreme shop for breakfast and Wild Wing for everything else.

A quick aside: Has anyone ever released numbers about how much training camp has benefitted the local economy?

It's $800,000 to $1 million each summer, depending on length of camp and a few other factors.
