Guess who got 16 reps on the bench press today

And which one of them smelled of true first round potential? :dw:

The point is trying to replace Steve with another Steve. I personally, would rather go after a big body. Just because this dude had a good combine and is projected to go in the first, doesn't mean he's what we need.

Not really. If you're implying that because Cooks had a "good combine showing" that he will be a first rounder, then why was he considered a late first rounder by so many draftniks before the Combine? If you're not implying this about Cooks, then pardon my assumption.

Wasn't speaking on cooks spefically. To be quite honest I have only seen highlights so I can't speak to his skill. I was more speaking on general most huddlers believed Michael Sam was a 1st round guy or some on here are adamant that moncrief is a 1st rounder as well when they haven't been graded out of the second.

My dream scenario would be to draft Brandin Cooks in the 1st and Brandon Coleman in the 3rd; to appease those wanting a big target, don't forget the Panthers already have Marvin McNutt. We just need someone that can get open on a consistent basis.

This is deep draft but I think coleman is near the lower end of the field.I think he can be had  later than 3rd rd which I think would be a  reach for him.

No he can't. His floor is in the third round at this point. He's a huge body who has deceptive vertical ability, and very good hands. Extends his catch radius really well, and plays well through contact. Only reason he's a third rounder is because the numbers aren't there due to QB play. Very strong possibility he goes in the late second to early third.

Just popping in here after a few pages... Obviously, this is an uneducated opinion, but here it goes. I don't know if Cooks could be the best receiver on the planet, the only thing I see as an issue here is that the trend is toward ever bigger and taller receivers. As a result, the evolution of defenders is to go in the same direction. Every other team is going to be tryi.g to pick up talent to defend all of the other big receivers, putting the short guys at a serious and ever increasing disadvantage. We need to go tall and big... Remember, freedom costs a buck O five.

If Cooks ends up being even half as good as Steve Smith in his prime. TheRed is gonna take so much poo lol

I'll be happy for him.

There is only one Steve Smith. I think any player will tell you they would rather make their own way, than have to stay stuck in the shadow of another player. I've never said the guy lacks talent. Too many people want to make it personal. If he happens to end up a Panther, I would support him like any other player. Ultimately it isn't up to any of us anyway, regardless of what happens there will be a number of people here pissed off no matter who we draft.

Where do you get that? The spot that is open is Lafells, who is an outside receiver... Also if we bring Ginn back that's another receiver who plays some in the slot

Right now his spot is anyone but Smith's. LaFell, Ginn, Hixon and whomever else are all FA's. Though I don't want another short WR (unless we grab a couple big guys later or FA) but to say his height pigeon holes him to a slot position is ignorant. It may play to his strengths, but it doesn't mean he can't play outside.

My only issue with Cooks is his height and that has more to do with Cam's propensity to throw high than anything he has done. Taller target just makes sense.

Well I don't think marty hurney showed any tendency to always have his eye set on the 'next Steve Smith' in the way your set.

He drafted quite a few receivers similar to him. I referenced Hurney because of his stubbornness to adapt. For all his mistakes, and failures, he never seemed to learn from any of them. The only legitimate long term receiving threat that he brought in during his years here was Greg Olsen, and that was through a trade. It seems some of us are still stuck in his mindset honestly.

You have an opinion, Red, but don't try and act like no one else's opinion is based upon arguments that are just as compelling, and perhaps even more-so than yours.  You're better than that...Oops, no you're not.

He's not, he makes crappy arguments and is almost always wrong.

So much fail in most of his posts in this thread...
