Gleaning Rivera's pulse on the draft.

How is Benjamin NOT a project? He lacks the fundamentals and experience.

agreed. he's a monster/freak of nature physically and has a high upside, but he's not ready to drop into a system that requires it's players to run complex routes without having to be taught how to from scratch.

he's got a lot to learn...and yes, so do all players coming out of college, but he's got more to learn than, say, the WRs from LSU or other schools who play more of a typical pro offense.

gettleman and ruvera prefer someone who comes into the league who can be plugged into what we do easily.

I'm not trying to be a jerk but everybody thinks they can do somebody else's media job. The truth is, they can't. Zod is a photographer but because I can work a camera, does that mean I could do his job? The answer is no I can't because I don't have an eye for capturing the right shot....maybe I don't have the patience or the timing. Everything looks much easier than it is.....people like Bryan Strickland come and go all the time because getting a job and being good enough to keep it and much harder than it seems. There's a ton of people on this board that think they're scouts, coaches, or GM's. We are all amateurs and assuming we could all be professionals and actually get paid to do those jobs is a very naive way of thinking.

Well, I appreciate your comments, but let me say that I used to have a site based on my writing only (until I basically let someone steal the domain name). I am in the process of considering getting it back up however.  Presently I am waiting to see if I will be able to secure a certain domain that is on backorder before I jump into the fire again. If not, I'll go with what I have already secured  more than likely.  I had built myself up to many subscribers and hundreds of views per month (real talk). Now of course, it wasn't about football, but I do know how to write.  BTW, I still have a couple of sites at blackpoems.net and howtosayiloveyou.net which are a little different than writing (particularly journalistic type writing), but I will also let you know that I do have a degree in journalism from UGA, as well as contributed to The Red and Black, so I do know a little something about formal writing (the AP style, in particular).  As I have always been somewhat of a Bohemian, I didn't choose to become a professional journalist in the purest sense of the word, but I have been told by many---including past high school teachers and college professors---that I do have some skills. But anyway, back to the Panthers...

That's the thing, you're not going to be drafting this guy to run complex routes. Your OC is going to say, okay, you other dudes run the routes, this guy Benjamin is just going to go downfield and catch the jump ball.

Sure, you'll teach him more as you go, but it won't be that much different than Evans.

I honestly think we'll probably take at least one DL in every draft from here on out, even if they're late-round picks. Gettleman loves his DL and unless we just have a ton of depth along with quality starters I see us taking one every year. This year, for example, we could cut Dwan Edwards and replace him with a late-round DT. We will need to replace Colin Cole and of course there's Hardy.

Jimbo's offense is very much so a pro style with pro principals.

Hillis was suppose to beat his man with size and speed (his athleticism) while he developed into a high-level receiver too. It never happened.

Taking Benjamin in the first round is very dicey. Sure, his measurables are fantastic but is he worthy of being a first round pick in the long run? Kelvin is already 24. He's got a ton of catching up to do.

Hill has had inconsistent QB play as well, but he has also been inconsistent his self.  injuries also have hurt his progression as a player, but the skills are their. KB has 3 years experience in a pro style offense, compared to Hill triple option offense at GT. KB is further along then Hill coming out.

Dude I don't need your resume....if you've got the chops to make it in the media/journalism business, then go for it. I hope you make it and everything works out well for you.....Maybe a few goobers on a message board will sit around and talk about how easily they can do your job.

I didn't necessarily want this thread to be a discussion only about Benjamin, so I added the "for example".

I wonder how their criteria will play when it comes to all of the suspects, like Matthews, Cooks, Landry etc.

Even still, there are others like Coleman, Moncrief, Richardson, Street, Latimer, Janis and Davis (Mike), who may fit the bill in later rounds.

The first player that popped into my head when I read the last quote was Brandin Cooks.

Me too (tbh). He is mighty small though...

Thankfully, I don't believe that G-man or Rivera will let Cooks' stature be the determining factor as to whether or not he's worthy of being a Panther.  They're smarter than I am.
