For all of you getting happy about the $130 mil, slow your roll

I love what G-man is saying, and I hope that his actions match his words. You'll have to excuse me if I missed it in one of these interview threads somewhere, but here is a quote from Gettleman via Bryan Strickland of Panthers.com:

"Last year we were quite a bit over, and we had to do some maneuvering just to get under for the first day of the league year. The progress for this year is that we don't have to do any of that, but that doesn't mean we're sitting here with $35 million," Gettleman said. "Every penny helps, but we're trying to get the thing under control. If it goes to 130, very frankly I don't know if we're going to spend to 130. We're going to be smart. If you're constantly up against the wall, you can't maneuver.

So Gettleman is not going to prescribe to Patrick Ewing's philosophy"Sure we make a lot of money, but we spend a lot, too."

G-man isn't gonna be loosey-goosey with the money, people, because putting yourself in the best fiscal position to sustain excellence is more than about thinking about what you see in front of you, but what's also off in the distance.

Good buddy of mine whom I work with [a few more years of experience than myself] make $200K/yr, wife makes $350K/yr, and they live in a $500K home whilst riving a 2004 Jeep and Acura.  Most people want to live in debt *cough*HURNEY*cough*, looks like G-Man is going the former route.  I.  FREAKING.  LOVE.  IT.

Maybe we rework the RB contracts by giving more to them this year with less for future or something.

Hope he can redo both.  Or maybe they do June 1 cuts and have more dead money that takes up the extra.  Who knows, sounds like he has a plan.

Will love to see what he can do in a couple of season when these bad deals are off the books

I agree with you.....those RB contracts are going to really be hard to deal with. I love Jstew and Dwill but RB's aren't that difficult to find. Hell, Tolbert was our best back last year and he's making peanuts compared to our two "big money" RBs. Hurney was foolish to dish out that kind of money to the RB position.

The extra money also could help the Panthers sign Cam to a long-term extension. He is  in the third year of his four-year rookie deal, is eligible to negotiate an extension under the new CBA. We also have to look ahead to signing Luke in the not to distance future. My belief is that Gman has a long range plan and is not just looking at the short term.
