If Smitty is "evaluated" and not on this team next yearn

WOW!!

As I saw earlier someone brought up his 2014 option bonus. I think that is what this might be all about:

Via PFT (http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/04/12/steve-smiths-contract-gives-panthers-4-75-million-in-cap-space/)

"In June 2014, the Panthers have to make a decision. With a $3 million option bonus payable from June 1 through June 30 and a $3 million non-exercise fee owed to Smith if he’s on the roster on July 1 and the team doesn’t pay the bonus, the Panthers must decide at that point whether to pay the money or cut Smith loose.

Paying the option extended Smith’s contract through 2016, at a base salary of $9 million.

Smith’s base salary for 2014 is $4 million, with $3 million of it fully guaranteed unless and until the option is exercised"

Sounds ominous. 9 mil will be way too much for a 36 year old

Little secret I have been holding tight due to how I know this, but there were two trades in place early last season before we turned things around. One to the pats and the other to the skins. Both were based on Smitty taking a pay cut. He wouldn't budge so the deals never happened.

Smith himself was actively trying to get traded, but it came down to his salary being too much.

Go home NJPanther, you're drunk.

it has nothing to do with "loyalty."

it has everything to do with cutting a productive player when he is quite literally the only player under contract at his position. it woul be the ultimate sign tha gettleman doesnt know what he's doing.

now this is more than likely nothing more than a power play to entice Smith into taking a pay cut so i wont get up in arms about it, nor do i expect richardson to even allow him to be cut.

He slightly outperformed Brandon Lafell.

Lets give Lafell Smitty's contract.

Don't be daft. He wasn't that productive. He should be making Ted Ginn money

OK, let's be honest. We all love Smitty. Thinking about a future without him is mind numbing. Made worse by the fact that his career could very well end somewhere else than here.

Personally, as he is already under contract, it stands to reason he will remain a Panther. But, as this is the NFL, I ain't gonna bet one way or the other.

He still commands respect. You can't ask for more than that. The question becomes; what value do you assign him? I say work something out to keep him happy. At least for a few more years.

I think DG really wants to cut Smith but he is hesitant to do so based on loyalty.

Business side ---> cut smith if doesnt take pay cut

Emotional side ---> you cant cut smith for all he has done for the panthers and let the money slide

DG is a business man first so I wouldn't be totally shocked.

You can tell how uncomfortable he was when asked about Smith next year. If you read between the lines I think it is pretty clear what is he thinking. (See above)

No. Some random guy on the internet like you wouldn't just "know" this stuff. You're either really drunk or you're seeking attention and lying.

The fact that you don't know who he is, doesn't just make him random. I mean heck, he could be friends with RR or DG, heck he could be DG.... you just don't know, so you can't say he wouldn't know that stuff.

Only thing you can really say is you can't prove it, therefore I don't believe you.

I mean I'm just a random guy, but I told everyone on here what Johnson's contract offer was before it was announced in the press.

Indeed a random guy to you, but I am in fact a real person. There is a very good reason why I would know this, but have no incentive to share. Sorry for passing along info. I'll be sure I don't do it again.
