If Smitty is "evaluated" and not on this team next yearn

WOW!!

Not as a rookie...

Wide outs tend to struggle in their first year unless they are just incredibly NFL ready.

While that is true... those arent difficult numbers to achieve. its roughly 43 yards a game. and more importantly 1 TD every 4 games. that isnt production thats hard to replace.

All I see is a lot of the same source. Sorry but you'll have to excuse me if I don't just take Bill freaking Voth's word for it. Smitty ain't getting cut. I could believe retirement rumors (but only a little bit) but not cut. Smitty is the closest he's ever been to a ring. I believe that if push comes to shove he'd take a paycut if absolutely necessary.

Everyone of those teams also had a replacement lined up to take over for the players you mentioned above.

If we're being real, you aren't going to find a wide receiver at 28 that will be able to come in and put up the numbers in his first year that we would be losing if we cut Smith.

As much as I love Smitty, I love the Panthers more. I want a Super Bowl. If Smitty wants money he can go elsewhere.

Nicks is better & all that money could sign him if Steve refuses to take a cut.

I am surprised as well. His cap hit is 7 million and his dead cap hit is 9 million which means that even as a June 1 cut it would cost 5.5 million to cut him this year and 3.5 next year. Surely he is worth 1.5 million. I bet they are looking for a restructure with voidable years or at least some changes to account for his surrent value. I cant see a cut unless he refuses to make any changes. It will be Smitty making the choice by whether he wants to be here or not and try for the Hall of Fame. Or if he thinks he can get the money elsewhere. I think Smitty wants to be here but also is tight about his money. He could go either way but I hope he considers an incentive restructure with voidable years if he doesn't reach certain levels. Fair for both parties.

I don't see this happening. JR had a huge publicity nightmare by letting Steve Beuerlein get cut and to this day regrets allowing it... I don't think he'd let Steve get cut unless there was a very, very compelling reason to do so. Right now we're paper-thin at WR and Steve is the only proven guy we have.

It would save the team little this year, but quite a bit next year.

This thread wasn't about the rumor. It was more about Jerry really giving the Reins to Gettelmen.

For years we heard how Jerry still has his hands in team decisions. This is a clear sign that this has changed.

I think it goes with out saying, there would have never been whisper's if JR was running the team.

Hakeem Nicks replacing Steve Smith?

Nicks can't even make his team meetings, or stay healthy for a full season.

Smith can't even get 800 yards or 5 TDs as the primary WR on a 12-4 team with a Pro Bowl QB.

Ok, this is seriously giving me a migraine. I cannot fathom this happening. A paycut, sure. That's reasonable considering. Cutting him? Outright? No way. Business aside, this cannot happen. Cannot, cannot, cannot.

Heh don't worry about it. The whisperings in bill voths head have no say in the Panthers' roster

There is no question who is running the team now.

No way in hell would a Big Cat runned FO be considering a future without Smitty.

Special if Smitty wasn't ready to leave.

The fact they are talking about this lets me know that G-man is in more control then Hurney was.

And how well has that turned for us? Just sayin
