Per Person: Panthers are restructuring multiple contracts

I hate the NFL sometimes.

You can go from division winner with a playoff bye week to rebuilding in a month and a half.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I'm not saying we are, but we could. We could go into the season without one if our best linemen, no Kraken, no receivers, no Steve Smith, no Gano (who was quietly very good for us) and no future deal in place for our franchise QB.

I trust Gettleman will make the team stronger than ever, just a frightening thought for an otherwise peaceful Friday afternoon.

We are trending up.

I'm all for paycuts, restructuring doesn't solve the problem. Just pushes it back a few years. Although some of these players are deserving of the money, others are not.

That is why you only should do it with players that are producing on the field.

Doing with non producing players like Stew and D-Will is stupid as hell.

Guaranteed 3 seasons with the team according to whom? I would argue that he is ONLY guaranteed 2014. We may take a hit if we cut him next year but we can minimize it with a June 1 designation. Both Deangelo and Stewart should be worried if they wanted to play here the next few seasons. They will have to give up something to ensure that they have an opportunity. Stewart has been here for 6 seasons (holy poo that makes me feel old) and likely now has roots here. Even if he took a paycut, he knows he can stay, he knows his value with us will be higher than with any other team, and he can still have first crack at the starting lineup. That's a sweet deal in my eyes. Or he can take his bonus and scramble for a mediocre contract with a team looking to take a chance on a (going on) 27 year old runningback with ankle issues that has hardly played in over a year. Not ideal for him, and if I were his agent I would advise him of that.

The hit the next two seasons are rough even as June 1st cuts, it's possible he could be cut in the off season leading up to 2016. Unless the team wants to take a loss when they have cap problems the next couple seasons.

What incentive does Stewart have to take a Paycut? They either cut him and die, give him his option bonus and tie him to Charlotte for 3 more years or not give him the Bonus and his cap hit skyrocket for this season. He has no incentive to take a pay cut what so ever. He would be stupid to do so because the team can't cut him.

I'm very doubtful that Gross comes back, pretty sure he's going to retire.

Don't want Lafell back at all.

Why would it be dumb for him to take a pay cut? Players have been known to take a pay cut for their team. Tom Brady is a good example of that. It just comes down to how much Stewart loves team and want to see his team win a SB before he retire.

Taking a pay cut is hard for guys that have lived their entire lives with inflated egos. Florio made a good point, these guys sit around the locker room and compare how big their contracts are. Nobody wants to face the locker room with a shrinking contract.

Our man Gettleman is ruthless, he don't give a fug about all that.

Or is it harder to sit in a locker room with guys looking at you knowing that if you DID take the pay cut, maybe the team would be in better position to succeed? Wouldn't it make them look selfish, especially if they could afford to give a little? I don't think it is hard to face a team by being selfless, it's harder if you are selfish. See the complications of Darrelle Revis and Julius Peppers vs. Tom Brady and Thomas Davis. Who do you want to play with?
