CJ needs to restucture immediately.

 

Just because he restructure doesn't mean he is taking a pay cut. They are just extending the contract and moving around some money. Also Dwill or Stewart will not take pay cuts. They ain't stupid. Bottom line all restructuring does is move money around pretty much.

I anticipate a Deangelo, CJ and Olsen restructure, Stewart paycut, Smitty paycut (and he will be happy to do so), Godfrey paycut or June 1 cut.

 

What I hope happens next:

 

We re-sign Hardy and Gano immediately. We try to get Mitchell back with a reasonable deal, and he agrees a few days later than the first deals.

 

Gross comes back on a 2 year oddly team friendly deal with an opt out clause after the first year, but enough of a bonus to give him a fair amount.

 

Ginn comes back on multi-year deal, gets paid like a number 3-4 receiver with a little extra change for his elite special teams ability. 

 

Munnerlyn tests the market, likely lands a deal out of our price range with another team.

 

Lafell back on a 1 year "prove it" deal or walks.

 

The rest we let test the market and come back with deals we either will or won't match.

 

and finally.... Strut like a boss into free agency with 10+ million in cap space and come away with a second consecutive successful and cheap free agency and Gettleman throws his dick on the table for all to admire.

What incentive does Stewart have to take a Paycut? They either cut him and die, give him his option bonus and tie him to Charlotte for 3 more years or not give him the Bonus and his cap hit skyrocket for this season. He has no incentive to take a pay cut what so ever. He would be stupid to do so because the team can't cut him.

 

 

I'm very doubtful that Gross comes back, pretty sure he's going to retire. 

 

Don't want Lafell back at all.

Stewart's incentive to take a paycut will come from the fact that if he does so we can possibly guarantee his future here at a higher number than other teams would pay for a longer period of time instead of guarantee 1-2 years and definitively guarantee that he is cut right after that. He will never see a contract like that again, he isn't getting any younger, and he still hasn't shown his worth for the contract we gave him. So if he helps us out with the cap, we can offer him more time with the team, more money than other teams will offer him while he is here, he gets to stay and play with his teammates, and he won't have to sweat his immediate future nearly as bad. I've seen situations like this happen with other players before. If he is a team player and wants to help the organization get better and have a chance at a Super Bowl, then he needs to do it. It's a question of how much would you give up to get a ring?

He pretty much is guaranteed to be here for the 2014, 2015 and 2016 season if they give him the option bonus. If they don't he gets over 8 million this season and all of it's guaranteed. 

 

I just don't see him taking a straight up pay cut.

I hate the NFL sometimes.

You can go from division winner with a playoff bye week to rebuilding in a month and a half.

Before anyone jumps down my throat, I'm not saying we are, but we could. We could go into the season without one if our best linemen, no Kraken, no receivers, no Steve Smith, no Gano (who was quietly very good for us) and no future deal in place for our franchise QB.

I trust Gettleman will make the team stronger than ever, just a frightening thought for an otherwise peaceful Friday afternoon.

Hurney isn't here anymore. He won't overpay for anyone. Do you honestly think Gano, Ginn, and Mitchell will break the bank? No. Gross will be mid-tier if he comes back and the contract restructurings will soften that blow. Hardy is the only potential guy that could and I still say he stays for less than 10 mil a season with a contract that is backloaded to minimize the damage in the first couple of seasons because of the cap and also to give us the opportunity to make a decision on Johnson a couple seasons when his numbers become astronomical. It's doable.

Guaranteed 3 seasons with the team according to whom? I would argue that he is ONLY guaranteed 2014. We may take a hit if we cut him next year but we can minimize it with a June 1 designation. Both Deangelo and Stewart should be worried if they wanted to play here the next few seasons. They will have to give up something to ensure that they have an opportunity. Stewart has been here for 6 seasons (holy poo that makes me feel old) and likely now has roots here. Even if he took a paycut, he knows he can stay, he knows his value with us will be higher than with any other team, and he can still have first crack at the starting lineup. That's a sweet deal in my eyes. Or he can take his bonus and scramble for a mediocre contract with a team looking to take a chance on a (going on) 27 year old runningback with ankle issues that has hardly played in over a year. Not ideal for him, and if I were his agent I would advise him of that.

      The coach- Canales was a rookie hc and at times looked like it. But he did manage to revamp the offense, helped Bryce not look like the biggest bust of the draft, exuded positivity,  and made the panthers watchable again. We have a viable head coach for the first time since rivera The gm- Morgan had some hits and some big misses. Hits- the ol, Coker,demani, dj at first. Misses- almost every d player signed, brooks, the jury is out on x. I get what he was trying to do with brooks/Hubbard but it blew up in his face. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes. But he did trade mingo for a 4th, managed to get a 2nd rounder this year from the Rams and I am a fan of constantly churning the bottom of the roster The draft- x can be a solid player but not until he catches the ball, brooks was a high risk pick that didn't work out, Wallace, demani and Chau Smith can be solid contributors and showed glimpses, Coker and jt should be mainstays. And flipping a 7th round lb that was about to be cut for Jackson was a great move.  The offense- had its ups and downs but Bryce has turned from one of the biggest busts in nfl history to a potential franchise qb, that change is worth its weight in gold, thielen was crafty and underrated as usual, Coker was a gem, jt was the solid but has some growing to do, and Hubbard has been awesome, the o line was much improved as well The defense- well...they set records, injuries, poor coaching (imo), bad playcalling and just plain sucking this defense needs everything to change, we need horn and Jackson back and we get brown back but we need bodies and an identity. If they can do with the def what they did with the o then we can challenge for the division bc we already have some pieces there.  Overall- this was a growth year full of questions and some of the major ones were answered(qb, coach). For the first time in a long time the season didn't end depressingly and I do have cautious optimism for next year. But they need to learn from the mistakes of 2024 and if they do I like where this team is headed. On to the draft and 2025

      I disagree. It’s not hard to double a WR and still play the run. It’s called a bracket which you can use with a drop down safety or an OLB. Look up how it’s done. Also in obvious passing situations, doubling a wr is not hard. Falcons torched us in obvious passing situations time after time. 2 min drill, 3rd and long to where there’s no excuse to not focus more on Drake London. Mooney was out. London was the only WR Penix was looking at.  Evero simply can’t make adjustments. He’ll most likely be fired next year. Wish we would’ve just ripped the bandaid off this year. To call all people morons who think we can do better than Evero is a very ignorant and arrogant statement. Who the hell are you?

      As a rookie head coach, I think he exceeded expectations.  We looked competitive in almost all our games.  I don't think he's hit his ceiling.  7 of 10 for this year.
