Bobcats Acquire Gary Neal, Luke Ridnour

Ridenour gives the Hornets a true PG with a good shot off the bench.

Sessions would get to the foul line and was a good driver but Neal off the bench creates more balance on this team.

We have a ton of slashers in gerald n MKG which Sessions driving to the hoop nullifies.

Neal gives them a bench a guy that can put in 25-30 once in a while but probally a solid 8-12 points regularly.

Honestly, if the floor spacing is what I think it will be. He'll be able to easily average 12-15 off the bench in 25 minutes a game.

Neal is going to see a ton of time getting most of Sessions minutes. You'll see him on the floor with Kemba a bunch, the player this trade hurts the most is Henderson.

Bonnell expects them to play Friday night.

If anything it helps McRoberts and increases his assist numbers and 3pt FG% because of the extra floor spacing.

These guys are going to come in and contribute because of floor spacing, they are going to see some serious time with Jefferson on the floor.

Kemba/Ridnour

Neal

Tolliver

McRoberts

Jefferson

That lineup is going to be on the floor quite a bit and that's some serious floor spacing, that's like the Orlando Magic with Dwight Howard finals team floor spacing.

I agree that spacing is a wonderful thing.  If you look at the Bobcat's strengths over this season it would be their turnover ratio, and assist per game and Sessions is a part of that.  That speaks to proper floor spacing.  My fear is that we might over load the perimeter with offensive players which would mean that teams could dedicate another defender to the outside. This would allow teams to help easier on Walker when he drives to the bucket.  Most of the time the defender that's going to help is going to be guarding Josh MC, they're not going to leave Neal open.  We're not going to win any games if we have to rely on McBob jumpers or drives to the hoop.  We're looking at only Al Jefferson being able to consistently score inside and we've just traded our 2nd best ball handler and driver to the basket. Ridnour or Pargo are not going to be able to penetrate the defenses to create the kick out pass like Sessions could or get to the charity stripe as easily.

So what would we need to make this deal good for us?  Neal needs to be sneaky good at getting to the basket, or another low post threat that could delegate McBob to being a solid role player off the bench

I may be wrong....but the more people on the perimeter means the less space out there.

I think they want to move away from McBob facilitating the offense so much from his stretch 4 position. You could have Biz down low cleaning up rebounds bc of the additional offense.

Also will give more space for Zellar to duplicate his awesome showing in the Summer.

Look at the Magic back when they went to the finals, It was Howard and a bunch of jump shooters. It's the system that Charlotte pretty much uses here. When Charlotte is playing at it's best it's running a inside out with Jefferson and McRoberts being keys in the lineup.

Jefferson is the key, McRoberts is the second key on the starting lineup. The team relies on McRoberts drive's and Jumpshots right now, those open up space for him and allow him to be a passer and playmaker. They rely on that already, this only improves his ability to drive and make plays. (he's third in the NBA in Assist to Turnover ratio and he leads the team in Assist/36m).

As for Ridnour, he's a drive and kick guy who is excellent at the pick n roll which makes him a very nice fit in Charlotte. Add his ability to shoot the 3. = a great fit.

Neal is an excellent 3pt shooter and that's what he's going to bring to Charlotte, he's never really been an effective player inside the arc.

I surely hope that's the plan....I am hesitant about Biz though.  I just don't think he's where he needs to be yet.  He can help on the boards and on defense.  He's just got no game offensively unless it's a put back.

I know the FO probably has a plan in place and all that.  But this team has been playing pretty good basketball lately.  I'm not sure if this trade is going to improve our team much more, and I'm not so sure we won't get a little worse now before we get better.  Something that we can't really afford if we want to make the playoffs.

We're 6-4 in our last ten.  That's tied with a number of teams for second best in the east.  The only team better has been the Heat.  Every playoff team 5th seed and below have a worse record over the last ten games with only a game and a half separating us from the 5th spot.

We could have climbed to the 5th seed without a trade.  If we go 2-5 over the next 7 games while they're trying to figure out player roles and sort out chemistry....we've pretty much would lose all of the ground we've made up.

I hope I'm wrong.  I'm glad to have Neal.  I'm just not sure Sessions was the best candidate for that trade.  Guy meant a lot to this team.

It's likely the team would have gone 2-7/3-6 over the next 9 with the old roster as well. I mean you're talking about a stretch of

vs NO, vs Memphis, @ SA, @ OKC, @ Miami, vs Indiana, vs Cleveland, @ Memphis, vs Denver.

We'll see what happens.  You could be right.  My gut though just isn't responding well to this trade.  Right now McBob is enjoying a decent stretch of basketball, but it's not a trend he's shown historically of being able to perpetuate.  Part of the reasons his numbers are up is because he is what the defense lets us have and he's actually hitting some shots compared to earlier in the year.   BTW I don't trust his shot mechanics....his shooting wrist flops all over the place and it takes him a long time to square his feet up.

Sessions just has this uncanny ability to get to foul line and force other teams into substitutions they're not ready to make.  Which has been a HUGE part of the reason we've been competitive.

It would have been a good trade in the off season.  I just don't think the timing is right on this.  We'll find out Friday.

Like I said....it's all here say.  I hope you're right.  We'll see what happens.

That's a tough stretch.  I think pre-trade we're going 4-5 over that stretch.

The biggest question mark for me is the locker room and chemistry. However, I'm looking at it from the perspective that if this doesn't work and Charlotte falls. They keep their pick and have three first round picks plus Neal when Sessions was going to be a fa.

So at worst you're looking at the team missing the playoffs and having a team that looks like this next season.

Kemba, Smart, Pargo

Henderson, LaVine, Neal

MKG, Ejim,Tolliver

McRoberts, Zeller, Payne

Jefferson, Biz.

Or any other crazy combination you can think of..

I think this team might add a few FA in. I expect this team to be looking for a 2 guard in FA.

Yea, there's also the large amount of free space. Idk why but because of LaVine's jumpshot, I just like the way him and Kemba or Smart would work in a back court together. You could go another route though in the draft, if this season doesn't work.

Charlotte misses playoff's and has all three picks.

Kemba, Smart, Pargo

Stephenson, Henderson, Neal

MKG, Saric, Tolliver

McRobets, Zeller, Saric

Jefferson, Nurkic, Biz

Charlotte makes the playoffs and has two picks. I think Smart is out of the running and goes to high for Charlotte to grab him.

Kemba, Deonte Burton, Pargo

Stephenson, Henderson, Neal

MKG, Saric, Tolliver

McRoberts, Zeller, Saric

Jefferson, Biz

If you can't tell, I really like Saric's game.
