The Official NFL Combine Thread

This draft is soooooo dam deep at the positions we need. I think it does us so much better to tag and trade Hardy. Even if we got a third and a fifth. Saving money, and filling more holes.

I'm not saying tagging and trading hardy would be easy but it's time for us to use our depth to our advantage as cash in. Could you imagine if we got an extra second. We could grab a number 1 corner, number 1 WR and a LT.

Now we just need a trading partner. As much as I like Hardy it will be dam near impossible to afford 26 million on a pair of DEs.

I think the tag and trade scenario has been discussed and not very likely. Don't hold onto to it just to make your dream scenario fit.

Yah I don't like the idea of sinking all that money into 2 defensive ends.

We need to start fixing the back end of the defense, and finding Cam some legit weapons. Hardy would be a luxury at this point and IMO we can gain alot more from tagging and trading (if possible) than we would by resigning him.

There's no way Gilbert falls to us now, official 40 time 4.37. Fastest of the day.

I wouldn't be opposed to trading back, and picking up another second and third round pick.

If there ever was a draft that set up well for that this is it. I think you wait til you are near or on the clock to make that call you certainly don't do it now from where we sit.Have to see who is falling.

Both didn't look all that smooth during the drills but both killed the vertical jump.

SJB: 41.5"

McGill: 39"

Getting these guys in the 4th and 5th would be a dream scenario.

I'd like a more traditional shut-down corner but with our front 7, these guys get a lot more leeway and have the speed and height to compete on the edges and downfield.

I'm still leaning towards Benjamin at #28 and OT's in the 2nd and 3rd.

Regardless, this draft is chick full of everything the doctor ordered to revamp the Panthers and upgrade at critical need positions.

Really pumped for this draft!

In my mock before the Senior Bowl, I had

Tiny Richardson     Not good, medical staff found knee issues

Scott Chricton         Good, but it depended on a tag and trade for Hardy

Jordan Matthews    Good, ran well

Keith McGill            Good, ran well and is tall and can play in the zone D since we don't play that much press anyway

Joe Bitonio              Good. Well, he blew up the combine and probably jumped 2 rounds

Robert Herron         Good. After the SB, he is also moving up and, he had a good combine.

Colt Lyerla               Good? Measurables were through the roof, but as I said in my mock, would JR have a guy like this on his team.

Ty Zimmerman        Not at the combine

With the Gross news, I will have to retool sometime this weekend and do the second of my three, with the last one coming after FA and personal workouts.

It's easy to me knowing a guy like Jared Allen is floating around waiting to be snagged.

Yeah I still don't think Fuller fits our scheme. He may have ran well, but he's a press corner. I saw him get beat deep, playing off coverage in multiple games. Unless Dennard falls to us, I really don't see us  taking a 1st round corner. Verrett and Roby are probably too small for Gettleman.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
