Thoughts about WR

If I had just went to the playoffs and had good odds of going back next season, I would take a WR that was ready to step in immediately.  This would make me shy away from a guy like Benjamin, who might take a year or two to develop.

Watkins, Lee and Evans, will be gone.

Who is most pro ready after that?

Are we going to draft a guy for the slot?  Taking over for Lafell or to replace Smith eventually?

These players are probably not the same guy.

With our offense, I would say a guy who can get down the field 12 yds and make a great cut and get separation.

Our first rounder might come from a Cooks, Matthews or OBJ.  2 are similar and then there is Matthews.  Will watch more tape before giving my opinion.

Why would they do that?  They already did that a couple of years ago with Ryan Mallett.

Plus, Logan Thomas just plain sucks at playing QB.

Yes, but there are many rumors that someone will be trading for Mallet this year.  Just saying that if it happens, Thomas is a prime replacement.  Should have made that distinction in my post.  Too many thoughts and not fast enough fingers to get them all in.

Our beat writers suck. The only prospect they've reported we've met with is Tahj Boyd.... (Unless I missed reports)

Pretty sure we met with others. Sucks having one of the worst beat writer(s) in the league, in terms of inside info/perspective.

Why is so many hell bent to find another Smitty 2.0?

There are PLENTY of good, bigger, fast receivers in this draft, that we shouldn't have to settle for a short receiver.

It was NEVER intended for Steve Smith to be our best receiver when he was drafted. We got lucky.

Is the only reason i'm greatful for George Seifert.

Yeah, this is probably what the Chicago Bears were thinking when they made David Terrell the 1st WR off the board in 2001.  Afterall, he was 6'2" 216.  That looks good on paper, right?  Same with the Seahawks when they took Koren Robinson with the next pick at #9.  6'1" 205.  Then the Washington Redskins took Rod Garder at #15.  6'2" 219.

Some 5'9" 184 runt of a punt returner went in the 3rd round #74 overall in that same draft.  Think those teams would've chose differently if they could rewind the clock?

Ironically, three of the best WRs in that class measured in at less than 6' tall - Smitty, Santana Moss, and Chris Chambers.

Good stuff. Just to add to what you said, it's obvious that Gettleman loves size. I think that makes Cooks and OBJ long shots. Allen Robinson is still a guy to look out for. He can get separation despite not having great top speed, and he's dangerous after the catch. Hakeem Nicks was 6-1 and ran a 4.6 according to nfl.com. If the Giants' personnel people were happy with that, they may be happy with Robinson too. To me, the most realistic options for us at WR in the 1st are Matthews, Robinson, and Lee.

Right now, I wish we had more option. Amaro seems slow, ASJ has that ankle injury, Moses seems like a RT only, Yankey had a poor workout, and you can forget about Kouandjio. Hopefully the DB's step it up.

After how he ran today I just hope he's still on the board at 28. I'll be heated if the Saints take him one pick ahead of us.

This is a rel deep class and honestly I can see him "falling" to us.

now ignoring the two going in the top 10 (Watkins and Evans) the other First round WRs are probably Cooks, Beckham, Benjamin, Matthews an Moncrief in that order. Ebron is probably the only TE going before any of those guys.

Now counting teams not in the Top 10, there's only 3 teams ahead of us I see taking a WR:

St. Louis, NYJ and KC.

So there's a huge chance Matthews is on the board by the time we pick.
