The Official NFL Combine Thread

I definitely would not be opposed to Cooks. If he had a few inches on him he'd be challenging Watkins as the best WR in this draft.

If we do see Cooks in a Panther's uniform...we better hope Shula can properly implement him into the offense and get him the ball in creative ways to maximize his potential in our offense. Also, if he select Cooks, I hope we draft a big bodied receiver as well to compliment him.

What Cooks will offer as a player outweighs what a big possession receiver can do. Jarvis Landry (sadly) can be had possibly in the 2nd-3rd, plus Moncrief, Coleman, and others will be available later. Cooks is an amazing talent and he already understands how to get off press coverage (not easy for a young guy), he is my favorite right now for the Panthers to draft in round 1. I hope he lasts that long.

According to Dane Brugler of CBS Sports, he has no idea how to get open, and gets "swallowed" in man coverage.

I'm just saying if we draft Cooks I want a big bodied guy drafted to compliment his game going forward because I believe it bodes well for our future. I realize he plays bigger than he is, but I still worry about his ability to get off the line when corners are trying to jam and body him. What intrigues me the most about Cooks is his ability to get vertical and go deep or dominate as a short to intermediate route-runner. Depending on the corner matched-up on him, Cooks should be able to exploit his weaknesses because he can do so many different things in an offense that corners will struggle with.

Totally agree with this.

Perfect scenario is a new #1 on one side a big guy and a new #2 like cooks on the other side with the veteran Steve Smith in the slot, with a healthy and bolstered Oline Cam will light it up!

Wel that my hope anyways.

    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
