Schefter: 2014 cap rising 5% to 130 million (extra 7 million for us to spend)

Stew isn't going anywhere. Even as a june first cut, we'd still be paying the man. He best be on the roster if you're gonna pay him that much. The financial gain isn't enough to sign hardy, so stop that hopeful pill of poo.

The only realistic way to reduce stews impact on the cap this coming year, is to ask him to take a pay cut, on a prove me year, with a team option to keep him after for more money.

Similar to what they did with Gross.

The difference will be the more guaranteed money that stew is/will be getting.

Cut CJ?

Our offense isn't good enough to carry the defense.

Johnson costs us 16 million in cap space in 2014 which goes up to over 17 million in 2015.  Cutting him save 8 million in cap space in 2014 and 9 million in 2015.  That is including the dead money it costs to cut him minus his cap hit.  At this point salary isn't the issue, cap space is.

We are not cutting Charles Johnson.

CJ is the best DE on the team with or without Hardy. He isn't going anywhere nor should he. I see us playing hardball with Hardy similar to how the Giants did with Umenyiora. I do think Hardy stays but I don't think it will be for the money he wants.

I think he was in the past but not last year. He played against less talented tackles than Hardy and Hardy still played better.

Johnson won't be here past this year unless we extend him.  His dead cap hit this year is the same as his cap hit which is 16 million.  As a June 1st cut it  is 8 million for 2 years so we save 8 million this year and 9 million next.  In 2015 his cap number is 17 million and his dead cap space hit is 6 million.  So by cutting him next year we save 11 million dollars.

Honestly I don't see us letting Hardy go when we know that Johnson will be too expensive to keep in the future unless he has a pro-bowl year and we extend him. Restructuring just guarantees we dump him next year and his dead cap hit increases to 9 or 10 million
