Back in your "glory days"...

I'm reminded of Greg Lloyd's youth football story...

Lloyd had a lousy family life, and he resented it when he went to play football and saw other kids with happy families.  He said he'd hear parents yelling "Johnny, Johnny...We love you Johnny" and would think to himself 'First chance I get I'm gonna knock the s--t outta Johnny".

Explains a lot about the man he grew up to be

um, in highschool I swam but was never good at it, at 16 I started to play paintball religiously and at 22 I was offered a spot on a full sponsored team, but I wasn't looking for a spot and turned them down. at the time I was more into Mountain sports, mainly whitewater.  Now I'm training for a Iron Man, my goal is to try and do a half Ironman by the end of the year(probably not far from being ready already for a half) and a full iron man by my 30th Birthday(closer then I'd like to admit).

i spent about twelve years actively pursuing martial arts... much of it was just your classic dumbass kid learning karate at the local dojo, not too serious, but from 16 to 23 i was heavily involved in the tournament circuit... in my hayday (which wasn't really a hayday, it just sounds cool) i'd go to four or five regional tournaments a year, the biggest being the july nationals in jacksonville. i won the championship in black belt adult division in 2004, which at age 19 was the crowning achievement of my life at the time

now i eat too much moe's and i've got so many irons in the fire i couldn't possibly find the time to get back into the swing of things to pick up where i left off, but man those were some fun days

Ooh boy!!  If you got me talking about my "glory days" I would end up writing a novel, especially if I am a little drunk.

I will keep it short.  I played basketball.  Top 200 in my class coming out of high school.  I was considered one of the best, if not the best, perimeter shooters in my class.

Scorer.  But lacked athleticism and couldn't defend.  Versatile.  I was 6'5 235 and played every position at some point during my college career (mostly SF and PF).

Never started a game (except senior night) in college but still ended up one of the school's all-time scoring leaders.

Went to a high school my sophomore year that had just opened.  Went from a 4 win team in inaugural season to 25 win team, conference champs, and ranked in the state by my senior year and won conference player of the year.  Then went to a division II college (after playing a year at Hargrave Military Academy as a post-grad) to a program that hadn't had a winning season in 11 years, by the time my class left we had won 3 conference championships and been to 3 NCAA tournaments with two #1 seeds.

Good ole days!!!

Soccer

Scoring machine, and pretty good anticipatory passer.

Definitely was coming into my own body/strength/skill wise in about tenth grade I really think I would have played in college.

Tore my hip the fug up before my junior year and was never really the same.

I did make all state my senior year, so that was awesome.

Also played club soccer from about 5 - 19, I tried to play alittle bit messing around a few years back and you don't realize how difficult a sport is until you try to play and completely suck.

A sports braggart thread? Cool. Football and baseball

I played in the Babe Ruth Bambino World Series out in Oakland when I was 12. Played catcher my whole life through high school. Decent power and good behind the plate but my batting average was not very good.

Played football through college. Always a center or OG. Played both ways on OL and DL in high school. Was the #2 ranked OG coming out of high school in NC. I could straight dominate kids and played with a real mean streak. Power cleaned 315 lbs as a senior in high school. Played in McD's East/West All Star game. College career marred by blown knee, torn arch, and shoulder surgeries.

Now I play adult kickball. Can't really play golf anymore because of my shoulders. To this day I still ache everywhere. Not sure how those NFL guys do it for so long.

The only organized sports we had in school were football, basketball and baseball and I played all three.

Was never that great in football... I was backup QB in ninth grade and had one nice TD pass.  In basketball I was just the token white kid, I could shoot the hell out of free throws though...  once made 98 out of 100 in practice...

Baseball was my sport in HS.  Senior year I batted .300 and we won the conference, played outfield my entire career.

Always been a golfer too... started playing when I was 8 with my dad who was a scratch golfer at the time.  I'm currently about a 9-10 handicap on most average courses and could be much better if I had time to play more.

As far as glory years in sports, those are past, but I'm in the best shape of my life now since I workout more now than ever...
