Panthers possibly 28 million under the cap

Well the problem is many times a "general idea" varies greatly depending on the sources of which said huddler is relying for their information. Honestly, with how many different ways the salary cap can be manipulated, I think people needlessly obsess over it too much anyways.

The fact alone that it isn't Marty Hurney handing out contracts here anymore gives us a substantial boost as well.

True but that article has been the ONLY place anywhere that has given the Panthers that much cap space. Considering that and the fact there is no linkage to a source or any breakdown of how there is so much space, makes it really hard to believe/trust.

And yeah, GMan at least from his rhetoric and moves so far, is definitely an upgrade to Hurney in that aspect.

I quit worrying about the cap after what I saw Gettle do last year bc the cap is a joke and is so easy to manipulate.

I hear this a lot on this board....and I disagree with it completely.

Any one year you can move things around, but it severely handcuffs you a few years away.

Also a major issue, is where you spend that money.  The Panthers have spent pretty poorly as of late.

I don't think, in any way, that we will have 28M worth of cap room to work with.

It would take some very, very strange things to happen.

True, but if DG somehow did get it & not screw us 2-3 years down the world, his name should legally be changed to "Gettlemagik" & the week of his birthday should contain a 4 day weekend in NC & SC from now on.

I'm not saying you don't have to be wise with your money, but us fans worry about the cap way too much. There's plenty of money to pay players, but you need to make sure and pay the right players, which was a weakness of Hurney.

I think the cap is less complicated than people make it out to be; plus numbers bore compared to nfl news. You make cap only a few ways: cut the player, the player takes a salary paycut, or restructure salary into a signing bonus. All have consequences that if you know the numbers can be figured out easily (ie going to Spotrac). What I and a few others are saying is the cap now + any of the few moves that can be made will not get us near 28M.

It's not crazy voodoo magic, it's predictable to those who no life'd enough to try and better understand it. Cut Edwards, Blackburn, June 1 cut Godfrey and move 7.5M of CJ salary to signing bonus in a restructure and we can gain a little over 12M on top of the 8 we have now. Those are the top 4 cap making moves. Again, it's predictable unless someone takes an out right pay cut which is unlikely
