Eagles might pursue Ginn

I think Ginn should be a top priority. I don't think he will cost that much. Sure he is a mediocre WR. But the skills he does possess are what our offense and really the team needs. He is that occasional blazing fast go deep option. But more importantly Ginn is a great return man. Is that replaceable? Maybe, but at what cost? The Panthers have tried for years to get a decent return man. Now we have a great one. What he brings is field position and the occasional break out play. That can be all the difference between winning and losing.

 

I want us bring Ginn back, let LaFell walk. Draft a WR, then sign one in FA. That should be a good enough core for Cam to work with.

 

I would take Ginn back at the right price.  I think, however, he is going to have to shop around and return before agreeing on what we are offering.  (Munnerlyn, Edwards, for example).  I do not expect his salary demands to be reasonable at first. We will  see.

To Gettleman this is a business and you leave all your options on the table until you have to make a decision. The players know this and Gettleman knows who wants to stay and who is important to the team. Everyone wondered why we drafted Keekly when we had Beason. Would you question that move today? We have to be patient and see what the Gman does. If Ginn wants to stay, I think we will him a fair offer. We were a good fit for him and he did a good job for us. I'd like to have him back, but I trust Gettleman.

How many teams are outhere actually signing guys? It's a process and not a very fast one,

With Maclin, you have to account for the fact that he's spent nearly his entire career in a West Coast type system.

How well does he do in a Coryell style attack like what we run?

I dont think I have ever heard of receivers being pigeon holed in terms of offensive style.

I wouldn't mind Maclin. He was becoming a weekly before his injury. Weekly as in bringing it to the other teams DB on a weekly basis.

most FAs aren't signed before the draft.

 

quite a few are, but most sit and wait.

 

there are several waves of FA throughout the year.

 

many teams don't fill out their rosters with FAs prior to the draft. they might fill out a few spots, but when the choice is to pay a huge amount for this FA or get a cheaper option in the draft, they'll wait to see what they can get in the draft and then fill out as the (off)season goes on.

Ginn isn't likely to come back, his bidding will go over what the panthers can likely pay him. I don't think he'll turn down the chance for more money and to be featured more in an offense.

If we're smart we'll feature him in our offense...

I don't think that Maclin has to play in a WCO, but it would certainly benefit him to do so.

 

As for pigeon holing, that is mostly for QB's, but I think that it affects WR's as well.

 

It's why I was jumping up and down to get Vincent Jackson in here.  He could have helped Cam get to a whole new level.
