Carolina Panthers Versus The South Part One: The New Orleans Saints.....

our record vs you as of late speaks other wise... im pretty sure we have swept you 2 out of the last 3 years...

How does that prove the point that the Saints will always suck with Brees? Wait, I'm expecting reasonable posts from a DWilliams/Stewart fan. Silly me.

The Saints have a high risk, high reward offense. You run into them when they're clicking, and you're in trouble. Sort of like the Bengals a few years back. Fast, high powered offense, but the wheels come off from time to time. They're streaky. I don't want our Panthers to run into the Saints when their air attack is clicking. That being said, I think we'll have a better season than the Saints, because our offense is easier to execute, and our defense is clearly better. But who really knows at this point?

I suspect that the Saints will be very aggressive this year. Whether that results in more success or not will rest on the secondary because blitzing only works if it gets to the quarterback. if it doesn't result in a sack it exposes your secondary and makes you vunerable to the big play. Trgo blitzed quite a bit over the years but it didn't always result in a ton of sacks for example.

The question is not whether the saints will be better but rather how they match up with the teams they see this year. I think the division will be won by the team that does best against the NFC East and AFC East not within the division.

As for whether we will match up well against this blitzing defense, you have to look no further than our opener against Philly. They play the same style with perhaps slightly better personnel. Historically we have been a mixed bag against blitzing teams, sometimes we beat then handily while other times looking rather pedestrian. Given we only allowed 20 sacks last year and have solid guys on the line and good RBs who can block, it shouldn't be a huge problem. On the other hand, Jake does get happy feet with pressure. I think they will be closely contested and like most times will come down to a few plays going one way or the other.

In the end it will be who plays better intra-divisionally.

The proof is in the pudding IMO. As of right now we could be horrible on D and so could the Saints. Just have to wait till the season starts to see. Still I cant help but to laugh at poor GB. They have Trgo as a DL coach and thats not a good thing......

Talent is not all there is to a defense, not even close. Scheme, the mentality of the players, and whther those players fit or not make more of a difference than talent. The 2000 Saints team that had 66 sacks wasn't that talented, they just had a very good coach in Ron Zook and a depth chart FULL of aggresive players. Philly & Tampa have been at the top of the defensive rankings for years now and it doesn't have much to do with talent.

FYI you better hope your wrong cause Greg Williams loves Talent. He is a coach that dose not do well without it. Blitzing and complex schemes Focus on smart talented players. You better just hope your problem is not talent or you in trouble this year with him.

The only area talent may be a problem in is with the two OLBs though they're very smart and hard working, both Shanle and Fujita come off blitzes well too.

The line and secondary are the most talented groups since our 2000 team.

I've never really bought into Sean Payton. Sure, the Saints do have great talent, but where are the results other than the cinderella run in 2006? Saint J was here last year talking about bad the Saints were gonna kick our ass and it never happened, I think it'll be more of the same this year.

    • How good would the Colts have been if they traded for Bryce.  Richardson is wasting a good line and quality receivers.
    • And this was with Derrick Brown having an all-time great season at DT also. Maybe this scheme was done right in Denver, but it hasn't been done right here at all in 2 years, with or without personnel. I'm willing to cut Canales some slack bc he was right in benching Bryce and has helped him develop into what looks like a guy who can be here long-term, and Dan Morgan has vouched for him too, but it's so hard to think about bringing him back after the all-time disaster this year was. Continuity be damned. Hope they are right though. This could be a playoff team with the 2nd Half of the year offense and an even average defense.
    • Re: Cam As you could probably guess, his personality didn't initially mesh well with the no-nonsense special forces guys, but they respected his performance in the challenges and he's been a good "teammate" to some of the others on the show. FYI: Also appearing this season is Golden Tate, who per his own words seems to be kind of lost in his post football life.
