Carolina Panthers Versus The South Part One: The New Orleans Saints.....

It's hard for me to get cocky about anything ever let alone when not one down has been played in 2009. I think about week 6 we should know whose D has improved and whose hasn't. If you gave me a choice of any of the coords in the division I would pick Williams though.

^^^^^^^^

cant argue with that......

I do have a feeling Ryan is going to have a tougher time than last season. Coaches have had a lot of time and tape to get use to Mr. Ryan..

True, but the Addition of the Best Tight End in the NFL will be a big help to him.

One good thing vs Atlanta is we play there early and they have many new defensive pieces which we can exploit while they are trying to build team chemistry. Once they all know what is going on they'll have to play in our house

The saints defense will be much improved and i know they are gonna be in great physical shape...G. Williams demands a ton out of his defensive players and i think they will be up to the challenge this year. The one thing about that defense no matter who you are, if you dont produce or know what your doing, no matter who you are u won't play. Look for Charles Grant and Will Smith to have big years and Vilma to make a ton of plays in this new defense. Blitz, Blitz, Blitz and see if you can stop us is the saints gameplan....Offensively look for Pierre Thomas to get a bulk of the carries with Reggie Bush giving the offense a different kind of spark when he's in there. Drew Brees will have another stellar year and works as hard as anyone i've ever been around...Look for the Saints and the Panthers to battle it out for 1st place this year with the Falcons not far behind.

Can't argue with this, Panther fans. The man's got a 1st hand account. :P

Much improved would be ONLY allowing 23 ppg...

there are far too many "?" on the saints "d"...

Have you seen thr run were stewart runs over your entire defence... :rolleye:

The Saints scare me this year. i think we'll beat them the first time we face 'em, due in large to their defense working out the kinks in the new scheme and their lack of decent DB's (we'll pass well against them.) Brees will also be facing a much different Carolina defense than he's used to.

Second game could be different. Defense clicking for the Saints, Brees with a game versus Meeks' defense under his belt... if they don't win it, it'll be close.

You know what, a lot of made is about the 'lack of talent' on the Saints defense in previous years. My question is, how are talented players supposed to suceed in a scheme with NO blitzing, NO stunting along the line, etc?

you're right, and carolina suffered the same thing with trgovac.

the difference is - and i think this could be the achilles heel of the saints defense - is the blitz packages are going to leave some one-on-one coverage with receivers; it may pay off in some instances, but i suspect they'll be vulnerable to quick slants because of it. if the CBs on the roster can show something in camp and up their game, it'll be less of an issue.

I don't think CB is that big of a concern, I'm more worried about our safety depth. At CB we have Greer, Jenkins, Gay, Porter, and David. We have so much depth there that the starter from most of last season may be cut(David.) At safety we have a bunch of young players competing for time and Sharper. We'll just have to see who steps up.

hmmm... i'm no expert on the saints (except when i'm talking smack ;) ) but i seem to recall gay and david being two of the biggest liabilities last season on the pass D (at least when we played you guys.)

having lots of interceptions isn't a reliable stat - nhamdi asomugha has almost no interceptions, but that's because few QB's dare even try to throw the ball on his side of the field. He may have high INT stats, but he blows a ton of plays/gets beaten quite frequently.

all this is to say, if the Saints can solidify their defensive back position to the point where their blitz packages don't compromise the integrity of the defense as a whole, New Orleans could easily come away with a top ten defense.

we'll find out soon enough :D
