Cam saying he WON'T hold out for new deal

I can't think of a single QB who would actually hold out for a new deal. QBs just don't do that. That's a RB and DB thing to me.

I think his stance is more toward not signing prematurely. Cam could go to any team drafting top 5 and turn it into a SB contender. Cam wants to be relevant and don't wanna literally carry an offense with both his arm and leg to win games. He doesn't like being overworked. That's why he was always so pissed off in his press conferences the first 2 year. Money is not overly important to him. He wants to have what Kaepernick have in SF.

Cam has said literally nothing to imply that he wants to be a free agent and try free agency.

True, but also Cam is not the type who will 'fight' for a contract. He knows there are teams with a load of cap space and better weapons that would line up to get him. Remember, Cam didn't choose the Panthers, with their dire financial situation and limited talent. Yes, when Cam came to the panthers they barely had a franchise type players on the roster. Cam bought them time so they could spend the last 3 drafts on defense. This craziness is unheard of.

He'd get slapped with the exclusive franchise tag after year 5 well before he ever became a UFA. He will get paid either after year 4 or 5, depending on when the cap space allows. I also think Cam understands this & knows he'll get paid when it can be done without crippling the team.

He will get paid when Gettleman is good & ready to pay him. "We're doing this on the Panthers time & nobody else's."

Hardy & Munnerlyn can cry out all they want. Not gonna change anything, there is a new sheriff in town.

It's an extension, not a restructure. Whether they extend him now or after next year, he'd still play out year 4 as is (a $7 million cap hit). And using the franchise tag on him would "cripple" the team more than an extension would. Right now the 2016 franchise amount (the year he'd be an unrestricted free agent) for a QB is $24.74 million, and that's before Kaepernick (who doesn't have an option like Cam) and guys like Luck or Wilson potentially sign deals that could drive up that number. One would assume a long-term extension would have a much smaller hit than that.

If they can get him on the cheap for one more year it would go a long way in the team's ability to build around him.

It's not a continuation of his rookie-scale deal, it's like a mini-franchise tag. For top 10 picks that get the option, their salary is the average of the top 10 players at their position. As of now, assuming no other big QB signings until then, Cam's option would cost about $17.2 million, basically a $10 million raise from this upcoming season. Actually more than that, he's only making $3.4 million this year while the rest of his cap hit was a signing bonus and thus, already paid.

Only on the huddle would people interpret this quote to mean that he wants to test FA... LOL

I don't think he wants to test FA, but he don't want to keep looking up and Nate chandler doesn't know who to block and Byron Bell can't block, then look downfield and see that Lafell still ain't open even after you've avoided the whole dline already.

It comes a time in every great player's career that they realize that they can't win it alone. I think Cam coming in believed he could carry a team the way he did in college, well that don't work in the NFL. I don't care how good a qb is you give him subpar talent to throw to and he don't look so great.

This team has done ZERO to build around Cam. Why would he bang down their door for an extension. Just like he had to prove that he's a franchise qb, they have to prove they are serious about getting him some talent. Don't think what Cam said at the pro bowl wasn't calculated. He wants better talent around him. If they don't provide that pretty soon it's going to take a lot to keep him here.
