It wouldn't surprise me to pick up a QB in the 7th/UDFA to run the scout team and possibly develop as a backup. Boyd's stock seems to be falling and could fit in as a practice squad QB until he's ready to take over for DA.

It is not that much of a stretch if the Panthers see something in him where he can ride the bench for years behind cam and have the potential to be good. a 7th round pick to replace clausen (WHO IS STILL A PANTHER!) doesn't bother me too much.

I love how people dismiss something simply because it comes from Person.  I know it's become a running joke here, but this point is actually quite logical.  Anderson is a FA, and will cost significantly more than a late round pick.  He also doesn't fit the style we run with Cam, and if he does have to come in, we'll have to adjust the way we run the offense, so an athletic backup QB makes a lot of sense.  Not to mention the fact Rivera was ready to pick Wilson in the 5th if Seattle hadn't already taken him.  So obviously he is at least open to a later round QB to act as Cam's backup.

 

Of course none of that means that is the direction we will go, but it's also not something out of left field.

I wouldn't be mad about spending a 6th or 7th rounder on Boyd.  Wouldn't be bad to have a backup QB who better fit our offense.  If a 6th or 7th rounder can simply make the roster, that's a successful pick at that point in the draft.

i can see this happening, its not far fetched at all. you can save money or spend the money for DA on another free agent. the panthers wanted to draft Russell Wilson to back up Cam, but didnt want to spend a mid rounder on him.

I would not be surprised to see a 7th round QB selection. Finding players that can even make your roster in the last two rounds is highly unlikely, so the QB would probably just become PS fodder.

Also, I don't understand why the outrage at the possibility of this idea. The panthers were reportedly interested in Russell Wilson a couple of drafts ago in a late round scenario. It's not that unheard of.

Logan Thomas is not very good. Scouts are wanting him to take reps as a TE in the combine because they don't think he can make it as a QB.
