Munnerlyn's agent meeting with Panthers next week

He is good at blitzes and tackles. However that's not the main description of a CB.

A man coverage CB, sure.

Munnerlyn, in his third year as a starter, returned two interceptions for touchdowns for the second consecutive season. And playing in a scheme that requires corners to be good tacklers, Munnerlyn missed three tackles in 932 regular-season snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

A zone coverage CB? Sounds like he's good at doing what he's supposed to do.

It is both beneficial for capt and us to agree to terms. He is not good enough to be a starting caliber corner in the league at the moment. He will get burned several times without a great front 7. I think most teams know this when they evaluate him and will stay away which helps keep capt cheap.

I'm surprised no one is talking about the Panther's having not contacted a single free agent player or agent.

Gettleman and Rivera specifically said they'd be taking a few weeks to evaluate film and a meeting with Munnerlyn's agent is apparently now upcoming, so I'd say it's going exactly how management said it would.

Mike Florio

As Panthers cornerback Captain Munnerlyn heads toward free agency for a second straight year, he’s heard nothing from the team about a new contract. And he’s surprised.

Well, more than surprised.

“It’s been real quiet, which is shocking,” Munnerlyn told Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer. “I don’t know what’s going on. I’m just waiting. I guess they’re going to let everyone hit free agency. I don’t think they’ve talked to anybody, yet — not even Greg Hardy. That’s a shocker to me. I guess they’re going to see what the market value of people is and go from there.”

The Panthers still have three weeks before the agents for the team’s free agents officially can talk to other teams. (Unofficially, the process starts this week, at the Scouting Combine.) Last time, Munnerlyn rejected a three-year deal from the Panthers before looking around and eventually signing a one-year deal.

“I think I had one of my best years,” Munnerlyn said. “And I think my market value will be a little bit better than last year. I want to stay with the Carolina Panthers because that’s the team that drafted me. I love the organization, and I feel that’s the best team that fits me personality-wise. I love the coaching staff. I want to stay there.”

Three other key defensive backs also are due to hit free agency — safety Mike Mitchell, safety Quintin Mikell, and cornerback Drayton Florence. With only so many dollars to go around, the Panthers will have some difficult decisions to make.

Still, the lack of communication shouldn’t trouble anyone yet. Especially not Hardy, since it’s possible no communication will happen until after the Panthers apply the franchise tag.

this.

they've got plenty of time to get things done. i'm not worried at all. i can understand players maybe getting antsy, but the ball is in the team's hands until FA opens up in a few weeks.

they'll make offers to some that they would like to keep and then let them test the market. i.ve said before that i think it's going to be another buyers market  only with a lot more FAs hitting the market this year than last because of all the players who settled/asked for one year deals last year.

they will be looking for multi-year deals that will be quite a bit less than they think they should be getting and will do the same as last year...either turn down 2+ year deals that they think will be more lucrative the next year or get desperate and take whatever one year deals they get offered. the smart ones will opt for security and take the multi year deals even if they are lower than what they would like or feel they deserve.

a few players will hit it big, but most are going to be the victims of a crowded FA market, a deep and talented draft class, and small caps.

Do you think you're a shutdown corner or something? Getting beat every other play and still has the desire to say the DBs were not the weak link lol.
