Newton tied with Brees

I doubt shula has much say in personnel.  I'm actually fine with the Shula offense philosophically.  As vanilla as it is it was extremely efficient for most of the season.  Imagine if we had a running back able to occasionally turn those 1 yard runs into 8, 20, 30 yarders or bring it to the house.  What if we had receivers who had reliable hands and could actually get some YAC?

Theoretically I feel a "standard" offense is ideal for Cam.  Physically, Cam is basically a better version of Roethlisberger.  Best situations for Cam are ones where he can extend plays so the defense breaks down or he can take off to move the chains.

The only thing I didn't understand was in the playoffs why we didn't send Cam over the top in the goal line situations.  I get that it risks his health, but we are willing to do it in the regular season, so why not in a do or die situation?

I didn't mean personnel, I meant it more like "I'm not sure he can build a playbook around Cam."

I agree it's literally an automatic touchdown by default if Cam just jumps over the pile and reaches the football out, why in the world wouldn't they run that. Or even a PA pass to find Olsen in the end zone.

All these quarterback rankings are just opinions anyway, everyone has a different view. I don't care where he's ranked, I just want to win.

The comments are entertaining as usual though.

That's absurd. He was basically the entire offense this year and led us to 4 fourth quarter game winning drives to win huge games (and almost a 5th against the Seahawks, if not for DeAngelo's fumble), with aging Smitty, Lafell, and Ginn and Hixon at receiver. People just don't give Cam or the Panthers any respect ever. I do agree though. Cam could throw for 2000 yards and 10 tds next season for all I care, but as long as we're winning I'm more than satisfied.

This is so true.

I always find it humorous, how so many fans/critics, are quick to criticize Cam or carry the party line/media meme, with out knowing anything significant about Newton's play or his team.

You're right! Cam was practically the entire offense, and carried enormous pressure, due to the fact that he was the only consistent offensive threat, and the Panthers needed Cam to make plays in order to win. That's indisputable/the record proves this.

These folks, act like Cam could just sit back and win games from his defense or offense scoring points while he watches. Not at all. Those are other quarterbacks. SMH

Despite the Panther "great defense". They didn't score a lot of points, like Seattle's. Newton, still needed to make plays in order for his team to win. And he did it with old/average receivers, a shaky right side of the OL, and unproductive RB's (remember, Tolbert's a full back).

What type of numbers would he had put up, if even one of those units were good (WR's; Right side OL, RB's), mind you all three of them?

I don't agree with that at all. ESPN is a complete joke. Newton's a top 10 QB, but not quite top 5. He'll get there, especially when he gets some weapons, but he's just not there yet.

Great logic there. He'll be elite when he get more weapon but can't be considered elite when he doesn't have weapons? If you're an DC how do you game plan for Cam. Cam, without much weapon was one of few teams that took seattle's D to the wire. Drew Brees looked like crap playing all those good defenses. That's what it's all about. Cam with the Saint's roster would run a train up Seattle's ass any day. Brees with that same roster is a 2 TD underdog.

I agree with it.

Brees is just as beatable as Cam is if not more so.

With all the weapons the Saints have they were underdogs throughout the playoffs. I can't imagine how much the Saints can upgrade to make them any more competitive. I think pure pocket passers are outdated. Put a dual threat QB back there the saints would match head to head against any team in the league. Same goes for Denver.

Like it or not, Cam is a 4000+ & 500+ guy easy with the Saints' weapon and he did that with just a 5'9 guy as his primary target. Brees is not exactly threading the needle on every play. He suck when Graham can't get wide open against press coverages. I lost all respect for Brees after this playoffs. Could barely beat the eagles with all these weapons at his disposable. Plus, Payton took the ball out of his hand for most of the playoffs. That's not elite. Fact is, when you throw a lot you will accumulate a bunch of stats but don't expect to beat Seattle and the 9ers or even us on a consistent basis.
