Lions release Nate Burleson

well that is no real endorsement. he is on the wrong side of 30, and couldnt stay healthy. i think the panthers could find s better guy then Nate.

He's obviously not a long term solution, but lets say the draft plays out in a way that all our quality picks are used on o-line or secondary because those are the BPA at our spot and we re-sign Hardy and don't have much cap room for FA WRs... Would anyone be fine with Burleson as our #2 if it came to that? I think he'd be much better than Lafell for a year if we can up our secondary and o-line this year. Then we could draft WR next year. I would be very happy if we could strengthen our secondary and o-line a lot in the draft and keep Hardy for a reasonable price even if it means leaving WR weak for another year. You can tell from my other posts here that I really want them to draft 2 WRs early, but I'd be more than happy with quality secondary draft picks and then just having Burleson for a year. Obviously re-signing Ginn is a must but he wouldn't be our #2.

how much longer are the panthers going to put off obtaining a WR? steve is on his last leg, plus you have 2 unproven guys who couldnt get a jersey on game day you are expecting to contribute. Nate would not be an upgrade over Lafell simply because he cannot stay on the field, is just as old as Smitty, and also struggles to contribute as starter.

he should ride off in the sunset, and retire.

with the depth of the draft at WR  we could get what he has to offer right out of the gate/draft with a longer term upside. In looking at the FA situation vs the draft experience is the only real edge.I really don't see many FA WR's to get so excited

about. I think we can address our WR needs completely through the draft even without one coming in the 1st round.with what is out there already money wise and future wise the draft seems to be the better way to go.

The only old receiver I would love to have is Anquan Boldin.  Him and Smitty would absolutely punk the opposing the secondary.  I think a Boldin signing an some Oline help gets us to the SB.

Why would you think that? what does he have that would put us over the top?

He's probably the strongest, toughest, meanest receiver in the league along with Smitty. Very tough to bring down. Did you see what he did to us in the playoff game.  His physicality and toughness completely dominated our secondary.  He even got into Kuechly's head a little bit.  He's been productive for a long time.  He's a great leader. He makes tough catches in traffic. He's a good blocker.  I remember when he came down with a catch even though he got his jaw broken on the play. Any rookie wr should be ecstatic to learn from both Smitty and Boldin.  He's still playing at a high level and he got stronger as the season went on. Plus he has Superbowl experience. He would also come relatively cheap because of his age.  It would allow us some flexibility heading into the draft.  He'd be willing to sign a one year deal.  He'd be the Thomas Davis of the offense.

You put his swag with Smitty's swag and dbs will not look forward to playing this team because it will be an all out physical assault.  Obviously we should still look to draft a WR if we can for the future.  The only reason Boldin isn't the top receiver on the market is because of his age, but he still looks to have another really good two years left. Doesn't have a bad injury history. He's a good blocker.

It would be a fugging fantastic signing.

the reason I asked has more to do with the conversation on draft prospects.I pretty much knew the answer. I do not disagree and this is why I like some prospects that are in that same mold. Physical, good hands type receivers.it is not always about 40 times and if we could get a young receiver in this mold that is a good thing.

Boldin made around 8 mil so how much cheaper would he come? i couldn't see us paying that for a year.

Well he had 85 catches for almost 1200 yards and 7 touchdowns.  I'd be ok with 1yr/ 6mil.  Very delighted with 1yr/ 5mil.  I'd fap to to 1yr/4.5mil

I like where you're going with this. I see what you're doing here.
