Brandin Cooks relishes Smitty Comparisons.

If he is available, and the BPA, why not take him, and let the "Steve Smith type player" learn under Steve Smith?

Then take a bigger receiver later in the draft, or pick up one of the bigger free agent receivers? Steve Smith is only going to be around for 2 or 3 more years.

I would not be mad if that happened.

But if he is not the BPA at a position of need (tackle or corner for example) then pass on him.

As someone else has said on this thread we have our slot guy so no thanks to him however talented he may be, we need a legit #1 receiver so why would we take a number #2 at best? It makes no sense going forward.

To be fair we really have no idea who may or may not be a true #1 or #2 receiver right now. We are sitting at the 28th slot in the draft. The top receivers that have the greatest chance to be a true #1 will be long gone. If we do go receiver at 28, no matter who it is, that player will have flaws and will likely not emerge as a #1 this season and may never will.

If I'm seeing Kelvin Benjamin fall to #28 and it's him or Cooks them I'm going the big guy he can be groomed to be a legit #1 the big guy we need, I can't see Cooks being anything but a slot guy, argument could be Steve Steve made a career as a #1 when most would use him as a #2 but look around the league a big guy is the way forward now, a big tall dependable target downfield and looking at cams skillset it's the kind of guy he needs and this franchise has needed since god knows when.

BPA in fitting with our needs. If they deem that Brandin Cooks, I'm good with it regardless (but I always defer to the pros regarding the draft anyway).

As for us needing a big WR: Again, there will more than likely be Bradon Coleman, Martavis Bryant, Devin Street, and Cody Latimer available in later rounds.  Moreover, I don't agree with the notion that the 28th pick at WR will have any more flaws than anyone else necessarily. Keenan Allen ruled them all last year, and he was taken in the third round.  T.Y. Hilton, the previous year, was a third rounder as well.  They aren't the only ones.

If the draft plays out in a way in which we can get Matthews or Benjamin AND Cooks (lets say we trade Hardy for a 2nd and a 4th, and then we use our first and one of our 2nds on receivers) then our offense would instantly become top 10 next year, and we'd be in the SB. Come on G man make it happen.

I want him so bad. I hope my heart doesn't get broken and he's taken by the 49ers.

Want to try and sell me on him then?

Without using NFL comparisons, because he's not Smitty and he's not Tavon. He isn't going to make anyone look bad in the open field. I'm not sure he'll do much damage on the outside in the NFL and that's what we need. We already have Smitty who I'd like to see moved to the slot full time. Ginn and King both smaller guys as well. We don't need another in Cooks.

Is he a good athlete? Yes. Does he track the ball well? Yes. But there are other guys that do that in this class that may be there at 28 too, and they're all 6'2 - 6'5. We need bigger outside guys, so we can move Smitty to the slot. We need guys that will be able to fight through a press on 3rd and short and pluck the ball. I don't believe that is Cooks.

Guys like Benjamin, Robinson and Adams even would be more valuable to us because it would allow us to move other pieces we already have around to make them more effective.

I don't understand why there are so many posters who say no to a smaller guy because we need a big receiver. You guys know that there are 7 rounds in the draft right? We can get a big receiver with a later pick if we don't get one early.
