Brown vs Brayton

Recommended Posts

I read somewhere that by placing Lewis next to Peppers we made our pass rush VERY predictable and that most would have switched Kemo and he to prevent the QB moving away from them.

I am not a wiz on the defensive front, but isn't it usual to line the NT over the C and LG? That way you create a pincer motion with the RE and LDT making it very hard for the qb to go anywhere. Lining them bot on the right side allowed the protections to be rolled their way and the QB to move out of the line of their rush.

The more I look at the defensive end posistions, the more I'm becoming convinced that being the "starter" isn't going to mean a whole lot this year. An intelligent rotation of all options would provide a consistantly fresh pass rush from both sides and would keep opposing lines and backfields constantly off balance, especially against some of the big pass play offenses that we'll be facing this year. Keeping as many options at the ends as possible is a must this year. A key injury there and we're ruined, and the only way to ensure avoiding a key injury is to have as many starter quality back-ups as possible.

So, short answer, Brayton shouldn't be sweating about his job. Of course, I've been plenty wrong before.

We'd happily pick up Brayton if you guys released him. :)

Honestly, why would you want to get rid of the guy? He was playing as well as any DE on the Panthers roster to end last year. I think he had 19 tackle and 3.5 sacks in three games to end the year, and I certainly remember him creating more pressure vs. the Saints than Peppers. He's a versatile guy as well.

I wonder how good Brayton would be if he was orginally drafted by a team that can actually develop players.

I imagine he would be a totally different player if he were drafted by a team like the Patriots that knows how to develop talent. Not saying they are the only ones but they do a pretty darn good job.

The best part about it is that he can still be that player. He's not that old and his mileage isn't too bad. Look at how much better he was with us for 1 year.

who here is high on lewis...i think he needs to go back to rotation..and i think johnsons run stoping is underated

but i want to see what favrorite can do..IDK if you have seen him but he has some of the longest arms i have seen. and thats a good thing for a DT

I am looking forward to seeing Favorite and Harvey in training camp. We need some great guys for a rotation.

I think having depth on the Dline is a very good thing. Having a player like Brayton who can play both DE & DT is great. Looks like we have more DEs than anything though. We need another #77 like player in the middle beside Kemo to let the ends really do their thing. I don't like depending on a DT to get pressure on the quarterback.

If you line up the NT over the the center and LG in the A gap you are going with what we did with Jenkins. We put Kemo lined up over the right guard in a 2 gap read. This year we put Kemo over the center shading to the right guard and put Lewis between the left guard and tackle in the B gap playing the 3 technique.

If you play the NT over the center which is typical of 3-4 alignments the tackles usually line up either over the tackles shading to the guards or in the gap between the guard and tackle.

Lining up Kemo over the center and putting Lewis and peppers in the gaps keeps the other team from doubling either of them. They have to keep the tight end to block, commit the running back to block or roll out to the other side. In the end what you want it to force the offense to respond to you rather than let them dictate what they want to do.

What was predictable was the lack of stunts, delayed blitzes and straight ahead rushing we did on every down.

Damione is definitely not an "every down" type DT. It showed in St. Louis and it showed here last year.

we need a system like we had when Jenkins was still here. Lewis is still very good as a situational pass rusher. That means one of these other DTs has to step up in camp.

We seemed to address this the last two years by drafting Quicker DTs and moving our bigger DE to the middle cause Big Jenks dont come around that often.

yea, i know.

hell, 4-3 DEs in the mold of the type of DE that Fox prefers aren't that plentiful like they used to be.

and whenever there is a good one, they usually get drafted high. Tyson Jackson, nobody thought he was a top 5 pick, but the Chiefs nabbed him at 3.

    • Ravens coach John Harbaugh said “I’m going to have to wait” when asked about Diontae Johnson’s availability following Week 13’s loss to the Eagles. This comes a day after Harbaugh declined to comment on Johnson’s availability immediately after the loss when he said, “I’m not really ready to comment on that right now. I will be, but I don’t have enough information right now.” Whatever “information” Harbaugh needs is a mystery to most, but maybe he’ll gather that intel during the team’s Week 14 bye. Since being acquired by the Ravens’ at the trade deadline, Johnson has run 19 routes while playing on 39 offensive snaps. Johnson didn’t see the field in Sunday’s loss despite Rashod Bateman exiting early with a knee injury. Bateman’s injury isn’t believed to be long-term, but it will be interesting to see if Johnson sees an increase in playing time should Bateman miss a game or two
    • Wouldn't 300 yards and 2 TDs passing be considered "lighting it up" vs. the Eagles?  I take "lighting it up" to be an exceptional performance, not just NFL standard play. Don't you?
    • This must be one of his more popular videos because he drops these Bryce so quickly.
