Breakdown of Hardy's play in 2013

Ok,

Hardy had 2 qb hits and 1 solo tackle,

C.J. 3 solo tackles including 2 for a loss.

Star 3 solo tackles including 1 for a loss.

Short 1 solo tackle.

Edwards 1 solo and 1 qb hit.

It still looks like C.J. and Star were the ones that were the most disruptive on the line.  Hardy had the edge over Edwards, but our dbs did ok cause Vernon had one catch for 1 yard but it was a touchdown.  Crabtree only had 26 yards but Boldin was the star just like I predicted.

I just finished reading this on my phone. Although I don't think we should break the bank on him, a lot of petty nitpicking to prove his point

And why people keep bringing up Hardy against Sf like anybody else stood out. That's also nitpicking

Well he really got 4 sacks against Seattle, 1 against S.F. 1 against the Texans, 1 against us, 2 against indy, and 2 against NO.  I only choose those teams because they were either in the playoffs or in the hunt at some point in the season.  Plus he got sacks against team Hardy couldn't.

either against the center or tight end...I'm trying to figure it out.

the sacks against san francisco and the texans came against guards, not tackles.

the one against carolina was against gross, and one of he sacks against indy is against castanzo...so so far that's two legit sacks based on the article linked in the original post.

his other sack against indy was against a left guard, and the 2 against new orleans against charles brown...both graded negative overall for the season on pff.

my point is that elite pass rushers feed off of inferior talent. this isn't a knock on quinn. he's doing what he's supposed to do...just like hardy.

I would absolutely love to keep him and hope we do, but that really isn't a realistic option if he's serious about wanting CJ money. We can't afford to pay him even close to that. Let him go and get picks out of it is the best solution. A 2nd and 4th rounder would be great. It'll be sad to see him go, but he isn't worth even close to CJ money to us. He benefits greatly from having Star and KK and then CJ on the other end. We'll see what happens.

I don't think he's bad, but I do think he is very much a product of dominance around him with Star and Big Money on the line, and TD and Keek backing him up.  I would be ok with the the original contract offer (I believe 7-8 mil a year), but all of this 10+mil contract talk is too much.  At that price, let him walk, let Addison or Alexander rack up 7-10 sacks, and spend money on improving the offense with some weapons.  If we pay him what he wants, we will run into a D-lo/Jonathan Stewart situation, then we'll have to consider "was signing Hardy worth it to not have the money to re-sign Cam, Kuechly, and Star?".  Hindsight sucks for us, but if we knew we had a 15 sack DE when we resigned Stewart that we sacrificed to pay his ridiculous contract, I doubt we ever would have offered, but thats why Hurney was such a terrible GM.  In the end, while he's a fantastic player, I wouldn't want him over any of the core 3 I mentioned.

in my mind, it's going to come down to this...choose between paying hardy or paying cam.

how much can we afford to pay on one position group without doing damage to the other position groups?

when you think about how much hardy would be getting if we kept him (count on $11/year at least) and then consider that we have about $12mil/year already committed to CJ, if we just let hardy walk and the only draft pick comp we got was a 3rd round comp pick (basically a 4th round), what could we gain by letting him go?

well....in addition to that 3rd round pick, there's $11-12mil/year that we could spend elsewhere on adding several other talented players at a much lower rate in addition to having a good portion of that money go to cam and making sure that he's around for many years.

if we weren't stuck with those poo contracts that hurney gave williams and stewart, esp. stewart's right now, we'd likely be able to keep hardy around but that just ain't the case.

we could gain a little more money by extending olsen's contract and giving him less now and cutting godfrey, and maybe restructuring a couple other deals, but really it's just drops in the bucket.

we have a few FAs we need to sign and draft picks. if we extend hardy and cam, that just really limits the amount of money that we can spend on anything the next couple years.

i just don't see how we can do it. keeping hardy could do much more harm to the team than letting him walk. his production can be replaced by several players picking up their game much easier than pulling cap space out of thin air.

...and if we pay both Hardy and Cam, I'm not sure how we pay Luke?

the con of drafting well year after year, is signing them to their 2nd contracts.

cam=100+  million incoming

luke= 50+ million incoming

star= 40+ million incoming

kk= 30+ million incoming

hopefully 2014 draft pick _______ = 50+ million incoming
